This set is not digital tuning and you would need a converter for off-the-air reception. You can get full specs and manual downloads from RCA's site:

I have the same TV and was unable to get the digital channels until today. I think you need to connect your antenna on the back of the TV to the ATSC jack. If you have had it connected to the VHF/UHF jack, it won't detect the digital signals. Once you have the antenna connected to the ATSC jack just Auto Program your TV and you'll find all the digital channels in your area. Good luck!

A converter box is only required if you are using an external antenna (rabbit ears or rooftop). If you are connected to cable or satelite, no converter is needed. Please do not confuse a digital tuner (select channels using numbers) from a digital broadcast. The current broadcast system uses an analog signal. The changeover is to convert that signal to a digital one which will take less frequency space for the same channel. This frees up space for additional channels.
Hope this helps,

Model has one NTSC RF and two NTSC composite inputs. It's compatible with analog Over The Air and non-scrambled analog cable broadcasts. After the US analog cutoff (currently scheduled for June 12) it WILL require a digital to analog converter to receive ATSC digital TV transmisions.

Your set has a NTSC tuner for the over air broadcasts. You will need a converter box if you wish to use an antenna. If you have cable or satellite, you are fine.
