Question about Canon Powershot A480 - Silver Digital Camera
Other SD cards. Reformatting the cards, both in camera and in computer. Checking card is absolutely empty.
You most likely have a problem with the memory card reader inside the camera. Have it repaired,it's not expensive at all and it's the only option for correcting this problem. This place is excellent and the most affordable for Canon Powershot repairs (it's all they work on): www.CamerasAndParts.com Go to their site and you should find the email address for them. Send them an email, they'd be the ones to help you with this problem since it's a Canon. Good luck

Did you try to format it in your camera? even when it is formatted in another A480 it could cause trouble in your camera. How to format the card, is on page 47 of the manual. Although the manual mentions 8G byte memory cards it nowhere uses the word SDHC. In a rear occasion the camera can't work with SDHC cards. But if it worked before with the card. try formatting it.
Also check if the lock "switch" is in the up position, like in the photo. and if you have the memory card out of the camera, check all contacts in the camera and on the memory card. They all should be clean and shiny. No bent or dent. Eventually clean contacts with a dry cloth or cotton swab. Don't use anything sharp.

I get a memory card error everytime I insert a memory card. They are not locked and I have tried 4 different memory cards and nothing works. How can this problem be fixed?

There is not many things that could cause this symptom. The card lock position mechanism is faulty and will require a replacement circuit board. Most likely about a 20-30 dollar part.

Same problem but with a different camera. Turns out, these cameras are very... may I emphasize very... picky as to which cards to use. Try other off-brands and you'll be surprised as to what it takes.

SOURCE: 4GB card incompatible?
I've come across many people who say their card isn't locked only to find that the slide switch on the side of the card is indeed in the locked position. Check yours.
