SOURCE: Can you use a draper

Here's how to tell.
Connect a tee to the outlet of the pump.
Install a pressure gauge in the tee.
Install a valve after the gauge.
Open the valve and start the pump.
Once water flows, close the valve slowly until you get 50 psi on the gauge.
Have a 5 gallon bucket nearby and measure how long it takes to fill the bucket at 50 psi.
If it fills the bucket in 30 seconds, you can attach heads to the pump that combined consume 10 gallons per minute.
Let me know how you do.

SOURCE: Our auto irrigation system wouldn't turn off. We found the Davey XJ70 pressure pump was leaking so replaced the leaking pipe. Now the watering g system won't start. What do we do?

Hi Geralidine
Sounds like your pump is "air bound"...meaning that the impeller housing of the pump is full of air, and it cannot pump water.
Try bleeding the air out of the pump and put a positive pressure (garden hose pressure) and make sure that you shut the airbleed valve off after you start to pump.

Drip it don't drop it

The popularity of Drip Irrigation Systems has been rising in the past years. It is true that this method of irrigation is usually a bit more expensive than sprinklers and isn't as resistant on the long run, but on the other hand the water saving and the system's efficiency definitely make it worth it. So why not giving it a try?

First of all, this system waters plants and flowers more slowly and the water goes straight to the roots, so no water goes to waste.

Moreover, it requires to be activated with less frequency than sprinklers.
In most countries it's one day of irrigation every week during the winter, two days during spring and fall and three during the summer.

Did you get one yet?
If you did here are two basic suggestions to start and keep up a satisfying drip irrigation system.

1. In order to figure out how long to leave it running, you can measure how much water your emitter produces and according to that and your plant's needs, set the system's timer.
So take a spoon and measure how many seconds the system takes to fill it up.
14 seconds = 1 gph (gallon per hour)
7 seconds = 2 gph
4 seconds = 4 gph
If your system is of the first kind, producing 1gph, usually you should leave it running for about 90 minutes, if it's the second (2gph) for about 60 minutes and if the third (4gph) for about 30 minutes.
(If your plants require a higher-flow emitter you can get one that produces up to 20 gph and leave it for about 12 minutes each watering.)

2. In order to keep your drip irrigation system in good shape check its line periodically for breaks, or its emitters for clogs.
Make sure that each emitter releases the right amount of water.
Also you should flush the drip irrigation lines and filters about twice each year. You can do this by uncapping the end cap on the drip line and letting water flush through the line.

Good luck!

Do I place this at the faucet or after the pressure regulator on drip system?

Generally you put these timers at the hose bib (faucet). In my home, they'd be used for sprinklers or drip irrigation systems that have a limited controls on them. If I put them past the flow restrictor on the soaker hose, the unit would be on the ground and in the water.

I hope this helps.

What is a Drip Irrigation System?

According to Wikipedia "Drip irrigation, also known as trickle irrigation or micro irrigation or localized irrigation, is an irrigation method that saves water and fertilizer by allowing water to drip slowly to the roots of plants, either onto the soil surface or directly onto the root zone, through a network of valves, pipes, tubing, and emitters. It is done through narrow tubes that deliver water directly to the base of the plant."

I have a 1/2 hp pump which I use to pump lake water to my irrigation system. The pump takes too long to turn on when the spicket is opened and sometimes too long to shut off when the water spicket is...

when using the spicket you use less flow than your irrigation system so a delay in the pump coming on is normal...otherwise if you are having the same problem when the irrigation is running..a pressure switch adjustment may be necessary...please follow the manufacturer instructions for your pressure switch.
