V3505 Hard drive controller problem - is ...

My Fujitsu-Siemens V3505 freezes at the start of loading Windows XP - I know it's not the hard drive, as this operates in another laptop. I'm assuming it's the hard drive controller on the motherboard - is this in anyway fixable - or is it a new motherboard required ? :o(
Any help appreciated

Try replacing the memory.
