The trunk release lever will not open the trunk. the trunk will open when the key is used but not by the release lever.

So, when somebody else pull the cable, do you see the latch move back and forward from the trunk? There is nothing complicated about a manual cable, it just pull the cable and there should be a reaction to it. If there is no action from the latch, no movement at all, then the cable is just broken. If there is a little movement, not enough to pull the latch to open the trunk, you still need to replace the cable.

It won't close, so it won't start, the latch doesn't click shut.

Seems to be a mechanical fault as only if the door closes the safety switch will latch on which will initiate the program to move forward.
What is require is to push the release many times , use a de-greasing spray into the door latch mechanism. if this wont work you might need to reassemble the door latch mechanism.- if mechanically minded.

How do you take out third row seats

Follow the numbers on the latches. Step one fold the seat back forward. Step two fold the seat bottom forward. Step three pull the latch marked three towards you while pusing the seat away. This will allow the seat to disengage from the track and you can wheel it towards you and then lift it out of the truck.

Trunk lid won`t close

make sure the latch isn't already in the closed position. next if you've already slammed the truck several times and haven't broke the latch yet, you may have bent the latch that's attached to the truck lid as the sheet metal in this area is very flimsy. using a flash light , slowly close lid while peering in to see if the latch is lining up. you should be able to tell if its bent and in which direction. i had this similar problem and i simply grabbed a hold of the latch and pulled it forward, bending it back into a position where it will line up and latch on bottom piece. ( the part attached to the body and not the truck)

Yep you need to pull forward. The latch on those was made wrong. You shouldn't have to pull it forward to open. Use a light and see if you can find the cable to pull on, with maybe a long nose pliers?

Middle seat of 2000 Excursion moved forward, but now will not latch back in place It just keeps sliding back and forth.

It sounds like your latch has stuck on one side or the other. Get a flashlight and look under the seat, and at the same time pull on the handle that you use to move seat. Look for the movement of the seat adjuster, I bet that you have one that either sliped out of place, or some thing got between the adjuster and latch I.E. trash or one of your kids toys.
