Question about Frigidaire Fra18emu2 Air Conditioner

1 Answer

My Frigidiaire air conditioner will not turn off. It will run the a/c no matter what setting I put it on. The only way to stop it from cooling is to unplug it. I spoke with a technician over the phone and they said the best thing to do was replace it. I bought this new and only used it for one summer before this started happening. I have seen other posts on here regarding the same model with the same problem. Hoping someone can help.

Hello Christopher Welch, thank you for your inquiry!
I see that your Frigidaire air conditioner is continuously cooling until you disconnect power from it. It sounds like a possible problem with your sensor, thermostat, or control panel. Are you currently under warranty? If so, I would speak to your manufacturer for a resolution to your current issue. Best of luck! -Matt

Whats wrong when my unit coll good and runs good but when I turn it off the compressor keeps on running

Good Afternoon Friend,

I understand the compressor to your Frigidaire air conditioner, model# FAM187S2A, runs all the time. I also see that no matter what option you put in on, including "OFF", the compressor will stay on, unless you unplug the appliance. There could be a couple different possibilities with this occurring. It could possibly be the switch behind the control board. It could possibly be the control board. It could possibly be something completely separate that is causing the compressor to stay on when you plug your air conditioner in. I suggest contacting your local authorized technician for further assistance. They will be able to diagnose your appliance and determine the exact cause. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

Sounds like the contactor in the condensing unit is stuck. That is why it will not turn off when the thermostat is satisfied. If the inside air handler is not blowing and the outside condensing unit is running, then this will cause the inside coils to freeze up rather quickly.
The contactor is located in the outside condensing uni in the electrical compartment.
If it is sticking it will need to be replaced.

My heater never stops working even if i turn it off

There is a several minute delay from the time you turn this device off until it actually goes off. Reason for this is for the air conditioner to properly cycle off OR for the heater to properly cool down and shut off. This is not a light you are turning on and off, it is a complicated (for good reason) heating and/or cooling device.

Every time you change the setting, you add more time for the thing to take the proper action.

There is also a setting on most Goodman devices that will keep the fan going ... no matter what (well, almost no matter what)

I'm sure your instruction manual will explain these things in detail, after some number of pages of legal notices. Im equally certain your installer can be of further assistance with these concerns.
