How do i clear a 49.2 fa7 error on an hp cp4025dn printer. The printer is not connected to the network. It is directly connected to a window 7 machine. Printer has been working fine until now.

Go to your network and sharing center. Choose homegroup and sharing options. Change advanced sharing settings. Under your home or work profile, scroll down to file sharing connections. Switch to enable file sharing for devices that use 40 or 56 bit encryption. If that does not work, under password protected sharing, select "turn off password protected sharing". This is not recommended if you use your computer in multiple locations (laptop). I have found that turning all of these features off, running a scan from the printer successfully and then turning them back on, Windows seems to be comfortable allowing the printer to connect to the computer.

49:xx xy fault code is Firmware crash , look at the 49 error as bieng like a blue screen crash on windows, there are many things that could cause this to show- what to do-
disconnect both the mains cable and any other network/usb cables that are connected to the printer.
allow 20 seconds for the ram to clear. then re- power the printer still with no network connections, allow to come to fready - at this point you should try to get an info page from the printer ( use the menu(tick) button then scroll down once then press menu(tick) twice. this should now print out a information page and also at the same time you will have proven there is nothing wrong with the printer.#
BEFORE re-connecting the network to the printer - CLEAR ALL PRINT Queue's from the workstations (pc) as the likely fault is a corrupt print file, if you dont clear the print queue then the printer will attempt to print the failed file again and again and again and again and ag-sod it you got the idea

your printer driver is corrupt or the files your printing are corrupt- most 49.xxyy errors are down to software external to the printer. not sure?.
disconnect the printer from all network points and cycle the power - when it is ready perform a path print test ( found under the diagnostics menu on the printer itself ) and you will likely find no errors ( if by some horror of horrors you do get 49.xxyy error then you will need to replace the firmware chip - Very Very unlikely) -
what to do--
remove the printer and uninstall from the workstation - reboot the PC - re install the latest driver for your operating system downloaded from HP website
re connect the printer - print away !!

49.xx.xy error- General firmware error ( like a blue screen in windows)
a corrupt print file is usually the cause and can be cleared by disconnecting the printer from the network, then cycle the power , allow the machine to come to ready and ask the pritner for a configuration page( just a test to see if the printer is able to respond- if not then replace formatter/firmware chip) when this has finished printing goto the workstation that sent the last files to the printer and clear ALL print queues form the PC then and only after clearing the print queues can you re-connect the network - failing to clear the print queue will cause the printer to re-try printing the corrupt document which will result in 49.xx.xy error being displayed again.

ISSUE: A 49.x service error appears on the HP Color LaserJet 4500 or 4550 printers display, and other unexpected errors may be displayed such as:

  1. Turn the printer off, and then turn it on again. If the 49 error clears, proceed to Step 9.
  2. If the 49 error returns turn the power off, unplug the power cable, disconnect all network cables, and remove the HP Jetdirect card, which is located on the formatter, (see Figure 1 for location), or any third-party devices, if installed.
  3. Wait at least 30 seconds before plugging the printer back in directly to a wall outlet. Do not plug the printer into a power strip or a surge protector.
  4. Turn the printer on, using a cold reset. If the 49 error returns, turn the power off, and unplug the printer. Remove the formatter, and check that the parallel I/O board is firmly installed on the formatter board.
    NOTE: To perform a cold reset, turn the printer off, and hold down the GO button while turning the printer back on. Remember to remove the Jetdirect card (if installed) before performing a cold reset. (The Jetdirect card is located on the formatter).

49 error means firmware error..

solution:

1. Press CANCEL JOB to clear the print job from the printer memory.

2. Turn the printer off, and then turn the printer on. You can try reprinting the job to see if it was a temporary error.
3. If error persists, try printing a job from a different software application. If the alternate job prints, go back to the first application and try printing a different file. (If the message only appears with a certain software application or certain print job, try upgrading the printer driver and / or firmware.)
4. If the message persists with different software applications and print jobs, disconnect all cables to the printer that connect it to the network or printer. Turn the printer off and delete the print queue. Then reboot printer AND computer, reconnect cables, and try printing again.

5. Remove all EIO devices from the printer (Jet Direct cards, hard drives, etc.). If 49 errors goes away, turn printer off, re-install EIO devices one at a time, and reboot printer each time to determine which EIO device is failing.

6. If printing still fails with all EIO devices removed, remove all memory DIMMs or third-party DIMMs from the printer. (Do not remove the firmware DIMM-- printer won't function without this installed.) Turn the printer on with DIMMS missing. If the error no longer exists, install each DIMM one at a time, turn printer on, test printer. Replace a DIMM if you determine that it causes the error.

7. Remember to reconnect all cables that connect the printer to the network or computer.

8. If the error persists, replace the firmware DIMM.

9. If error persists, replace the formatter.

49.xx errors are mostly caused by invalid print commands, corrupt
data, or invalid operations. Basically the printer "does not understand" the print job.

- restart the printer to clear the print job from the printer's memory.

-if the error returns disconnect the network/USB cables from the unit and cycle power again.
If the error comes back without the network/USB connected perform a cold reset on the device and go the next step.
- Once the unit is at Ready reconnect the network/USB cable.

If the unit gets the 49.xx error or begins to print a job then gets the error disconnect the cables again and power cycle the printer. This time when you plug the network/USB cable in watch the control panel for any signs of the unit receiving a print job. When the printer says "Processing" press the cancel button on the printer. This should clear the "bad" print job.

I strongly recommend updating to the latest driver for the device Drivers Software . If you had an issue with a PDF file use the Post Script (PS) driver.

1st thing to do is upgrade the firmware. Go to hp.com and look for the software and drivers. Drill down to the firmware and read the instructions.

• A critical firmware error has occurred on the printer
• Turn printer off then on
• Disconnect the parallel cable or the network cable
• If message still there when the network cable is disconnected
upgrade firmware in jet direct card and the formatter board
• Bad network cable
• Replace firmware DIMM
• Replace the jet direct card
• Replace formatter board
• Replace engine board

95% of the time it is a PDF that has a font that is not recognized by the printer! If the error is not there when you follow the above, you may have to clear out the print queue.
