Question about Measuring Tools & Sensors

I have a Briggs and stratton 8 HP generstor model 197412. When i got it the only way to start i5 was to prime it. I started to clean the carberater and found that the needle float valve was damaged so I went and got a new onebut now it wwon't fire at all. What do I need to do.

Did you make sure you're getting fuel into the carb again? As far as I know, the carb bowl should always have fuel in it: when the float that's connected to the needle valve rises in the bowl, the needle valve shuts and stops the fuel from entering and flooding it. One common thing with those small Briggs engines is that the carbs get gummed up with our ethanol loaded gas. You may want to remove the carb, put a rebuild kit in it and soak it for a couple days. After you do this, I would recommend treating the fuel with ethanol treatment or stabilizer (sta-bil works pretty well) to keep it from getting gunked up again. The last small engine I rebuilt the carb in, I had to rebuild and soak 3 different times before it would move fuel properly. It's aggravating!

Check the voltage on the battery to see if it is 12 volts or higher. If not, charge battery.

Then check all starting-related electrical connections-- sounds like there is a dirty connection somewhere if the battery is charged.

i had a similar problem on a 20 hp v twin. there was trash in the fuel shut-off solenoid screwed in the bottom of the float bowl stopping fuel. It will come out without pulling the whole carb apart.

If it has a plastic intake manifold there is your culprit. The flanges warp and produce vacuum leaks and all three.

pull the carby and clean it out
clean out the main jet and the blockage in the needle and seat area
check that the tank cap vent is clear

Quantum XTS 50 keeps stalling, and needs to be primed again every time to start.

Try first as it is easy and 50% of the time is the problem Clean the small hole in the side of the hollow bolt that holds carb bowl on, located on the bottom of carb bowl with some carb cleaner if you have or just blow it out,

17HP Briggs Intek engine ran good then quit. Now

Intake and exhaust valves need adjustment. Intake .004, exhaust .012.
look for wear or loose rocker arm bolt before adjusting valves.
