I'm not sure what troubleshooting options you get when the computer is trying to boot but, have you tried last good known configuration or booting in safe mode?

My hp 3115m keeps rebooting. a blue screen pops up and says there was an error and my computer will restart. it keeps doing this over and over. what can I do?

chris, did you download an application or driver? If so try uninstalling it in safe mode. Blue screen is not a good sign. Re-start normally after the uninstall.

Computer unexpectedly reboots

There could be a number of things wrong with the system that would cause it to randomly reboot.

1. Try an antivirus scan. Use a good, trustworthy antivirus software to scan for viruses. There are good, free software programs out there such as Avast! Free, Avira Free and AVG Free, if you don't already have an antivirus.
2. Is the computer overheating? Check to make sure your rear vents on the computer are not blocked or obstructed. If you aren't scared to open up the case, check to make sure it isn't clogged with dust. You could also try to check for faulty cooling fans inside the system.
3. Is there a problem with Windows? Have you made any changes to Windows recently? You can try a system restore, defragmenting the disk or running a disk cleanup.

There is a known issue between AVG 8 and Anniversary Edition of Ad-Aware which gives exactly this error, so if you perhaps just got that ad-aware, uninstall it too before trying to reinstall AVG.

Then run the uninstall/cleanup util for Avast because the Windows Add/Remove isn't good for uninstalling antivirus programs. Then try reinstalling it again. If you downloaded the installation package, then it provides the uninstall option. Disable Ad-Aware's Adwatch first! Run the AVG installer. Choose the uninstall option and follow the wizard. When you get to the part to remove user settings, select it. Restart your computer then... Now reinstall AVG using the setup file you got and update it.
Restart Windows twice before you re-enable anything disabled earlier.

Should this not work and you get the same error, that means the original errornous installation is still not out of your system. Download the AVG remover from here:
http://www.avg.com/download-tools
Remove your AVG and reboot to make sure it is not there any more, and try installing again.

Let me know if the solution worked and if yes please rate me:)

try booting into safe mode? on a pc hit F8 repeatedly while you boot until you get a boot screen with the safe mode option. Some laptops have differant keys, eg F2, <Del>, F10, but ussualy they state this when it boots up.

when you get into safe mode, go to your run prompt and type "msconfig" hit enter. got to startup, disable all.Go to services, disable all. reboot. if this works, try running an pdated antivirus scan. I recommend using Avast! which is like AVG. It can do a start up scan. also try running something like 'trojan remover' which is free to download.

Good luck! :)

download avg free, avast, or antivir, install them, then reboot in safemode (hit f8 a bunch right before you see the windows xp bootup logo) and scan the computer. You can download the softwares from:

How to reboot a compaq v2000

there may be a backed up folder on another partition of your hardrive with the restore files, but you should have an anti virus programme installed, if not download this free AVG 8 and then restart your pc in safe mode (press F8 while booting and select safe mode).

click on the administrator account and find the AVG8 download, install it, the go to my computer, right click, properties, system restore tab and untick 'turn on system restore'.

run the AVG 8 programme and scan your system.

Once virusus are found, reboot system and then run as normal and then turn back on system restore

I have installed AVG 8 but I keep getting Messages saying I have no protection Firewall and Antivirus

It could be that the Windows security has not identified that you have installed AVG 8. Have you rebooted the computer to see if that helps? Generally, it does. I know that Windows security identifies AVG 8 because that is the antivirus product that I use and I have no problem.
