You have to remove its back cover to access fans. They can be located at the top side of the set, inside. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

SOURCE: Samsung HL-R5078WX/XAA will not turn

If set has high pitched or grinding sound it is bad color wheel.

See attached photo. I can tell you how to verify this if the wheel is shattered.

Very common problem in these sets and if you Google the model number with "color wheel" after it you will see where to get it.

You Tube and other sites have video and written instructions for its replacement---THIS IS A DO IT YOUR SELF JOB and takes less than 1 hour. There are some pitfalls to avoid that are not in the video instructions and I can explain them to you.

Wheel turns at 14,000 RPM and the bearings in the tiny motor lock up and the wheel either shatters or turns too slow--set detects too slow and shuts lamp off.

If this information helped you, rate this solution as I do this here for free.

I can step you through the repair and tell you common pitfalls to avoid----EBAY SELLS A LOT OF THESE COLOR WHEELS.

Replaced lamp light in Samsung HLT4675XS/XAA 1 year ago. TV is now turning off. The lamp light looks colorful but not bright. The standby light stays on after turning off the TV. Lamp light blinks twice...

I have a model close to yours & mine did the same thing. Its an easy fix the problem is its over heating. Unplug the tv take all the panels off the back of the tv and you will see lots of computer boards but look for one that has heat sinks and & small fan attached to it. Clean all the dust out in that area at the minimum but best to blow out all the dust on everything.

Make sure you are discharged cause if you spark any computer board it will be toast.

Samsung just told me they wouldn't fix my tv because it was produced in Nov. of '06 and the only ones they would fix were made in August of '06 or earlier. I am way too angry right now to call the service tech number they so very nicely provided.
