I have a kelvinator ksc25e but after about 5 minutes, the fan on the outside unit stops. Will still blow cool air inside, then 5 mins later it will start again. Will keep repeating over and over.

Could be the thermostat, fan motor or a capacitor. Check each one. Check if the fan and the compressor go on together. Check if the fan blades move freely. Check continuity on the capacitor.

My Opal does not start. How do I reset my Opal?

Hi.

The procedure below is the full troubleshooting when the RCA Opal is completely irresponsive and does not complete initialization.

Try first holding down the Power/Menu button for over ten seconds. This is called soft reset, and will reset the player to default factory settings. This reset will not delete personal files.

Depending on the model you may also have a reset button. In that case hold down the pinhole switch using a paper clip for more than ten seconds to perform an hard reset. It will take one or two minutest to restart the Opal after this reset, as files must be reinstalled. This reset will delete files and personal settings.

If that does not work, it means that system files are damaged. In that case you will need to reinstall the Opal firmware. Firmware for some model may be available online, but better calling or contacting RCA and asking them to provide you with an updated firmware for your unit. If the wrong firmware is installed the Opal may result damaged.
RCA can be contacted at the number listed on Opal documentation. Number in US should be: 1-800-878-5779 (RCA Audio Products Repair Centers and Warranty Info).

You can also get the firmware asking a question online. Use the following link: Create an Incident or ask a question.

See also: Information on RCA Opal M4001 MP3 Player.

To update firmware follow procedure below:

Download the firmware upgrade file.
Hold down the play/pause button for about twenty seconds .
Hold down menu button for more than 10 seconds
Keep holding play/pause button and attach Opal USB cable to computer at the same time.
The firmware upgrade will start
If you get an error saying that Windows cannot write to the Opal drive, that means that the Opal internal drive must be re-formatted. In that case go to Computer, click the right button of mouse on the Opal, and choose Format from the dropdown menu.
After formatting, restart both units, and restart firmware upgrade procedure.

Note: The procedure above must be used when the Opal is not starting at all. When instead the opal is starting, but it is not recognised by the computer, procedure will be different. In that case test the player on a different computer. Test different USB cable.Restart computer and Opal. Reset computer by disconnecting power cord, and eventually removing battery for five minutes. Try using System Restore to restore the computer to a date before having the problem. Reinstall Windows Media Player. Check System and USB hardware settings and driver on computer..

My Kelvinator Opal Freezer is not getting cold, I think the compressor is not kicking in ?.

Probably the thermostat. You will need a multimeter to see if there is a circuit across the thermostat. There should be 2 wires and an earth to the thermostat. if you bridge the 2 wires together. (NOT the Earth or green wire) the thermostat will be bypassed. If the thermostat is faulty, the fridge will start but will not turn off when it reaches temperature. You will then need a new thermostat. Make sure its unplugged before you play around with it.

Trans shifts very hard after 5 minutes of stop and go traffic

A reason for hard shifting could be a problem with many things with various degrees of seriousness. It could be your ATF( automatic transmission fluid) is low or broken down and old. This would cause the hardness and the reason for stop and go traffic effecting it. Another possibility is your transmission is just shot, and the timing gears inside are worn and not properly shifting at the correct RPM causing a **** during shifting.

Some possibilties, not all!

Hinch for Freezer/Fridge doors is broken,Kelvinator/fridge Freezer Model Opal-N520F-L My address is 30 Murraba Crescent, Tweed Heads 2465, NSW Where can I get the part

Thanks for the reply,
I solved the problem by finding an old warrent card with aphone number which I rang and was tild a nother number and that Electrolux is holding parts for Kelvinator, the nearest Electrolux branch for me was at NERANg a 30 minute drive. Their had the spare part for $20 and I replaced the hinch with a spanner. All is well as good as new.
Amazing how would one know that Elextrolux is holding service parts for Kelvinator, Westinghouse and others, unbelievable really

RCA Opal M4008A

I had this problem.  Backing up data wasn't a concern though, as I hadn't anything on the OPAL yet.
First I let the OPAL charge up for 3 hours.  Then I made sure it was powered off.  I had previously downloaded onto a PC the firmware update for the M4004 which also works on the M4008 and other OPAL's.  I plugged the OPAL into the PC, and booted up the PC. After installing the firmware package in the PC, you get an install screen for the new firmware with a format option for the OPAL.  I selected that option, but the "start" button was greyed out as the PC still couldn;t see the OPAL.  I pressed the reset (paperclip in the back of the OPAL) for about 15 seconds, than held down the "Play" button and waited.  Eventually the software recognized the OPAL, and started to format it.
If you get a dialogue to restart the PC, press NO!  You have to read the instructions that come with the install. Eventually I reformatted the drive, and installed new firmware.
BTW, there was no picture folder after I did this, so I just created a new folder named picture and it worked fine for the thumbnail pics I threw in there.  Also when I use a MAC with the OPAL, I power the MAC up with the OPAL off but attached.  After drag and dropping files into the OPAL, I power down the MAC.  After power down the OPAL will after a pause give the "building databases please wait" messages, then when done go to the start menu.  It is difficult on a MAC to eject the OPAL, it just reappears on the desktop so shutting down is the only safe way to administer the device.  But to update firmware, which is easily corrupted BTW if you unplug the thing at the wrong time,  you HAVE to do it on a PC operating system. Might work on an Intel MAC with a PC OS though.
Hope this helps.
