Question about Olympus Cameras
Please don't try to do a firmware upgrade, on a device that is not working 100 %. You need a good working device, to be sure the software is placed in the flash memory, as it was meant to be.
I don't think there will be any firmware around for this camera. So if anything is wrong with the camera, first try to find out what it is. Solve the problem, and only then (if available) upgrade.

SOURCE: Blury Display on FE140
It sounds like your lens's focus element is stuck. Given the events you describe it is possible that a grain of sand has worked its way into the focus motor's gearing and jammed it up. Normally the small motor moves the focus optic in and out to achieve proper focus, if its movement is limited or completely jammed you will experience blurry pictures. The camera will have to be disassembled and the sand cleaned out to restore normal function. There are repair providers you can find online who can work on your camera. There is a button on the back that can be pressed called Disp. (stands
for Display). There are two or three settings it flips through each
time you press the button. Press this button a few times to cycle through
the choices in each of the playback and camera mode to see if this resolves your issue. Happy snapping...

Sadly that symptom indicates that the camera is broken.
The device's seal protects both from the condition that you are seeing, but also protects the internal circuits from moisture.
If water has gotten inside the camera, I would pursue returning it and getting a replacement from the company.
