How do I disassembly a FLASH NIKON Speedlight SB-800?

A friend of mine forgot the batteries inside the flsh for a long time and the batteries leaked acid. I tried to disassembly the flash to clean it and because it does not work now but I can't separate the upper unit from the lower one. I see small screws below the hinge but I can't reach them with a screwdriver. Anybody has a procedure, graphics or pictures for this? Thanks, W.

Screws are on the bottom of hotshoe.
Then 4 on the shoulder.
Peel out the two rubber pad.
Be very, very careful, 330 Volts is waiting inside for you.

Bought a Nikon Speedlight SB-600 in August. Tested the flash and it fired ok. I took out the flash a few days ago to use at a graduation and the "ready" light did not come on. Consequently it did...

Hi grwcamp, Sorry to hear about it not working at the graduation. Are in the correct position (I am sure you did but, we must start someplace). Look inside, see if there is battery acid in there.
If with new/fresh batteries it still does not work call Nikon. You have a warranty on it so it should be covered.

SB-600 flash suddenly dead. Found some early corrosion on the AA batteries. What happened? Repairable?

Hi degossman, Corrosion is sometimes a fix us users can do. Other times it must go in for repair. What happens is the corrosion may leak past the point we can see in to the internals of the housing eating out wiring.

I have a Nikon D40x with a Nikon Speedlight SB-800. The speedlight is not working. I have the camera on, new batteries in the speedlight and speedlight on. Not powering up. Is there some secret battery...

With new batteries in the flash, and it being off camera what happens when you press the test button. If still it does not flash call Nikon 1-800-645-6689

I have a SB-600 press the flash button and it doesn't work. It will not flash.

If after doing a battery test it still will not flash you could look inside the battery compartment to see if there is corrosion. If not call Nikon 1-800-645-6689

Will not power on even after changing and testing the batteries. Only used maybe 30 times in last 2 years.

Check for the battery contacts inside the battery compartment. If you see them rusted, clean them gently with alcohol. Do not scrape with any sharp objects. Make sure the contacts are clean and reinsert the batteries. Get back if it is still dead.
