According to http://ismacs.net/singer_sewing_machine_company/serial-numbers/singer-p-series-serial-numbers.html , the P481131 serial number is for a 15K. The assembly of the machine started in the first half of 1901. I can't help you with the value.

Hard to say. Serial numbers can be found almost anywhere. Sometimes they are stamped in the metal of the base, maybe under the machine. Check the edge of the base if it is installed in a cabinet. Machines like this usually have only a serial number, no model number. The serial number will designate the model number on this list:

Valuation is really based on a lot of items--working condition, visual condition, accessories included, item's location, and most of all, how much someone is actually willing to pay. Vintage Singer sewing machines are common since so many of them were made. However, there are some models that are more coveted than others, ie Featherweight.

You need a model number, not a serial number. Value depend on condition, age and general desirability of the features a given machine has. You can check Ebay to see what people are asking for them, but bear in mind, the asking price is not always what they get.
