On a philco gas furnace on the 1 flash code with the limit switch part it also says eternal 'W' what does eternal'W' mean?

When called for heat, the thermostat closes,
applying voltage to the W terminal on the
control board.
This sounds like a thermostat, or safety switches (eg. flame rollout, vent, pressure, etc;) which you need to locate with one possibly inside the burner and reset the button if tripped.

Trouble shooting your gas Furnace


If you are having trouble with you gas furnace they are really not that complicated to figure out. Most of the newer gas furnaces within the last 10+ years have a flash code on the circuit board inside the furnace. The trouble codes are in flashes. For example: 1 flash means ignition problem, 2 flashes mean vent pressure switch, 3 flashes means control board problem and so on. The first thing to do would be to check for a sight glass or window in the blower door to see if there is a flash code. Then you can pull off the blower door to check to see what the code represents. The code chart is usually located on the inside of the blower door.
If there is no flash type board in the furnace it still pretty simple to trouble shoot. First thing is verify that you have power to your furnace. You can do this by checking voltage with a simple meter. Check for voltage at the door switch since this is usally where the power starts. If there is power there then check for voltage at the thermostate between the R terminal and C for common. If there is power there then you need to go back to the furnace and try to figure out where the power is stopping. With the power to the furnace off start to check the safety switches. With an ohm meter or a test light you can start checking for continuity across your safety switchs. Check the roll out switch that is located near the burners if thats okay, Check the high limit that is usually located up higher on the front of the furnace that has two wires going to it, if that is okay then check your pressure switches and these you will have to check with the inducer or vent motor running. Hope that this information is helpful and if you don't feel comfortable using an electrical tester be sure to call in a professional HVAC Tech. to look at it.

Furnace blowing cold air after replacing limit switch


Limit switches are safeties and require a manual reset. They are also a Normally Closed contact. A hi temp. thermostat operates on its own. If you are sure it is a limit, find the red little button and listen for it to click. Sometimes they push pretty hard.

I have a Goodman GMP 125-5 furnace. It had a 3 light code i replaced the presure switch now it is giving me a 1 light code please help

Interrupt power to your furnace for 20 seconds or lower the thermostat so your furnace does not try to heat, then reset the thermostat to the previous setting. I have goodman GMP series furance the furnance and gas comes on and fires up then goes out flame sensor is good what else could be wrong


Improper ground from control to burner.
Incorrect electrical wiring, check polarity.
Tubing partially clogged between inducer and proving switch.

Suddenly not working im not sure if there even is a pilot to be lit


Goodman have troubleshooting idiot lights on the board. Look for flashes and count em.
The flash explanations are printed on the backside of the blower cover on most models.

Error Codes
A green LED indicates system faults
Steady On: System OK
Steady OFF: Board control fault or no power applied
1 Flash: Ignition failure (control in one-hour lockout)
2 Flashes: Pressure switch fault, fails open (switch is
stuck open)
3 Flashes: Limit switch open (main or auxiliary)
4 Flashes: Pressure switch fault, fails closed (switch is
stuck closed)
A yellow LED indicates flame status
Steady on: Normal flame is sensed
Flashes: As flame weakens, frequency of LED flashes
increases

sounds like the primary limit typically behind the gas valve its larger then the others, rectangle in shape with 2 wires going to it. be careful if your bypassing limit this can create a very hazardous condition

High limit switch open on armstrong furnace


If you know where the high limit switch is you can always cut the two wires and wire them together causing the limit to close. But what you have to watch out for is why the high limit is not closing. That means in your return air either you have a dirty return air duct, dirty filter, or you don't have all your registors open to allow the heat to escape the heat exchanger. Just watch over riding the system. The high limit switch should either be on or behind the blower, in the middle of the system right under the heat exchanger. any other questions about hvac just ask.
