Question about Kitchen Ranges

Open Question

I have a GE electric range and the oven no longer turns on. I knowthe oven element is fine. The clock display on the front of range is also dead. Ive taken the back panel off and found that the wiring going to the lower area in back looks burned out. Can I repkace just the wiring there? Could this also be causing the clock display to be dead? There is a circuit board behind the clock display but that appears to be in good shape.

Richard, sounds like you did all the pretests. You'll need a new display panel. When you work on it, be sure to cut the power.

SOURCE: Inglis electric freestanding range model #IRE3230- Oven no longer working

If the oven and the electric panel no longer work, this is an electronic problem. The burners and the oven light will not be effected, nor will the fuses. The electronics card will need to be replaced by an appliance technician.

You will probably have to replace the main control board- the cooktop operates independently of the ovens, so your symptom is not uncommon... GE Range Stove Oven Oven Control Board WB27T10416

Oven wont work everything else is fine

As your oven is electric there is a heating element in the oven, have a look in the oven to find it and check the little plug in caps on the end to make sure they are not loose. If they,re ok check the switch on the front panel sometimes the knob comes loose on the spindle if that's all ok it may be the switch has failed. Good luck.

that sounds like an erc[electronic range control] or clock timer etc. You can check power supply to it but chances are thats what you need.

if you had a power surge then the resistors on the board cannot handle it. i am no electronics expert however i am a range expert and usually it happens when 1 you live in a very rural area and have frequent power surges.. 2 get struck by lightning.. 3 may have a miswired outlet.

JBP26 Oven broil and bake do not work and the oven light is flash

If you have 240Volts to the range and BOTH elements don't work, it sounds like the L2 OUT relay on the oven control is bad. Bake and Broil share this line and this problem is not un-common. Make sure you have proper incoming voltage first. Turn breaker off and back on to make sure both poles are set.

Baking element

oh bleep, right? well, if you're lucky this will get you going again. 1. disconnect power to range. 2. remove back metal cover just above range power cord (usually 5 quarter inch hex screws) 3. look for burnt off wire leading to/from bake element. If yes, 4. strip ends of broken wire and splice with ceramic wire nut if no 4. bad news. replace ERC (electronic range control) you fried something on the board. It's got the clock display and all the electronics behind it.
