There are nuts at each end of the thermocouple. One at the gas vale and one at the pilot light. Loosen both, remove and replace

Change thermocouple burners goes off

Thermocoupling is not set properly. approximately 1/3 to 1/2 of the thermocoupling should be engulfed in the pilot flame. Best to use a meter and set the thermocoupling at approximately 30 millivolts. The pilot assembly and pilot oriface needs to be clean.

I changed the thermocoupler but problem remains the same: pilot goes out after about 10-15 minutes. I have Williams model 250912. Please help! How do I test if new thermocoupler is also bad, beside...

Remove the thermocouple and take a pencil eraser to the hole. Clean the corrosion out the hole. Reconnect the thermocouple tight. The tip of the flame must hit the tip of the new thermocouple.
If the flame is hitting the middle of the thermocouple that is called wash through (no good) The bimetal tip of the thermocouple is made of nickel and copper layered. When heated it produces millivolts. This holds the electromagnet in and that is your safety feature. Thank you Ralph Nader.

The pilot light doesnt stay on to light the fryer... is there anything i can do? it is a lincat twin gas fryer....

Hi and welcome to FixYa. Most of the time this is as simple as changing the thermocouple. Any Appliance parts source will most likely have one that will fit your unit. (GAS VALVE OFF) It is a matter or unscrewing the thermocouple nut from the gas valve and then un-mounting the thermocouple probe end to change it out.

Take your OLD thermocouple with you to your LOCAL Appliance parts source so they can match the total length. Heating and Air-conditioning stores may have the thermocouple but your going to pay up to purchase a thermocouple from them. Same goes for restaurant equipment sources! $$$

Just make sure before you reinstall the new probe assy that your clean / wipe out the gas valve hole where the thermocouple nut mates to the gas valve very well. The probe works via micro volts and any dirt / corrosion / debris can affect the way the probe operates.

After changing out the thermocouple everything should work normally again. If not then the gas valve itself has a problem (highly unlikely) In the future if you need detailed info please pass your units model number in your response.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Changed the thermocouple and the waterheater starts up but shuts off a few seconds after

Iam guessing it is a fairly new hot water heater, when you put in the thermocoupler there should be some sensors there close by look for any carbon build up on them and any were else. if you know were the sensors are at just clean them off if you dont know were there at just do a good cleaning looking for carbon build up uninstall thermocoupler and reinstall and try again. if still not working check correct thermocoupler.

Pilot light not staying lit, changed thermocouple, start up proceedure normal until the pilot button released.

Some things to check:

Make sure the thermocouple is squarely in the pilot flame and that the pilot flame is large enough to envelop the thermocouple. A weak pilot can be caused by gas pressure or a carboned-up pilot orifice (where the gas comes out). The orifice may need to be cleaned. Ordinary automotive carburetor cleaner will work. Don't try to stick objects into the orifice - damage may result. If you need to perform this step, make sure the gas is turned off to the heater first.

Make sure the other end of the thermocouple is clean and tight in the gas valve.

Hold the pilot plunger down for at least a minute to be sure to give the thermocouple enough time to heat up.

Have a wall heater thats wont stay lit think i need to change the thermal coupler. what do you think

Check and make sure the pilot flame is hitting the thermocoupler.Flame must touch thermocoupler, if the flame is not touching it, you may have to remove and clean pilot orfice to make flame stronger. check this before replacing thermocoupler, good luck.

Climate master furnace ,can't keep the pilot burning ,i have already changed the thermocouple

Make sure the thermocouple is well into the flame. Remove the pilot assembly and clean out any debris in the pilot orifice. Tighten the connections to make sure there is no gas leak and lastly, replace the thermocouple again. You may have gotten a bad one.
