I have an Overhead Door 696CD/B Legacy system. Recently, when opening the door, it opens too far and I get an automatic disconnect from the STB as the plastic slide hits the motor unit. I've adjusted the 'open' fine adjustment pinion screw, over and over, but it only holds for one or two openings before the disconnects begin to happen again. The pinion screw, or gear, just doesn't seem to hold the adjustment. Should I be doing anything else?

Ok well the best advise I can give you is to open up your opener case should be a 1/4 nut driver or a Philips head screw driver. Make sure to unplug it first. Once the case is off, find a reqtangle black box with three white plastic screws they are what controls the limits. Chances are they got knocked off wheny ou were putting in the gear. check to make sure the wires are hooked up and find the placement of the limits make sure they can touch each other. Little tip I do for my customs is get a piece of sand paper and rub it agaist the metal contacts for the limits only. (after time lift master openers bind up a film and dont stop where they supposed to.) If your still not sure how the limits work plus in the opener and run it make sure not to put your hands inside the opener and nothing esle is in the way. Then adjest the limits as needed. That should take care of you if not go ahead and make another post ill check back with you.
SOURCE: Door opens after closing
If the main light flashes 10 times when the door reverses it is a door sensor problem but if the door is hitting the floor and reversing and the main light is not flashing then the door is closing too far and the safety thinks it has hit something. On the side of the motor unit you will find 2 controls. One of these is the 'down limit'. Turn this in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover until the door closes but does not reverse.

Loosen the chain enough
so that you can remove it from the sprocket above the motor unit.
With the door closed run the motor until the sprocket turns clockwise
and stops. With everything attached replace and tighten the chain.
Some adjusting of the up and down limits will probably be required.
