By the amount of reallocated sector-count it is conlcusive that your HD is failing. Back up your Data as soon as possible to another drive and replace the failing HD. If you can't read from the disk anymore and you need to have all the data on it you should consider HDD Regenerator. It is the ONLY piece of software around that works regenerating faulty HD's in my opinion. Saved me from disaster several times. But do not think it will really "cure" the drive. Like i said: backup your data and replace the faulty HD asap.

I have tried it before and I failed, all my data was wiped and I couldn't do anything so I would recommend you to opt for an expert for your damaged HDD Data Recovery task.

By the amount of realocated sector count it is conclusive yr hardrive is failing. Back up your data to another drive ASAP and replace the faulty drive.
If you need to get back all your data from the faulty drive and it doesn't work well you shoulod consider HDD regenerator. It is the ONLY software around that works in these instances and it has saved me Several times.
But do no think it will cure the drive !

Have you run chkdsk ? the bad sectors will get mapped by this and the chances of converting in good sector will increase. Do it and then after a week run it again. I am sure things will get sorted.

From what I have read a sector can be recovered only from Defrag if that doesn't work I have been told they are dead and can't be fixed

My computer burned 2 hdd

After i Read your Explaination,i really sure if the Problem is at your Computer POWER SUPPLY.
Change your Power Supply to Higher Watt.
i Recomended to you to Using SIMBADA Power Supply ATX.
and to Fix your HDD bad Sector,Try to use LLF (Low Level Format).
LLF will destroy all data and Partition. So after you Format using LLF,you need to make a New partition at your HDD.
LLF is Working for me to Fix Bad Sector in a So many times.

You can run ChkDisk utility to fix Bad sectors on the hard drive(If its fixable).
This utility actually marks the bad sectors on the Hard drive and Isolate from the being accessed thats why 33% of HDD space is unreadable.(Which is very high)
There is no option to fix this HDD, so suggest you to replace it with a new one.
Hope this helps Let me know if you have any query on this.

After using recovery disks for toshiba laptop satellite l305d i get error message 10-fa12-045d, please help??

Toshiba recovery error seem likely to be due to a failing/failed HDD. If your laptop is in warranty then visit Toshiba service center. Otherwise try this--------> I would like you to try checking the HDD with an error checking program from floppy or CD or with the drive removed from the laptop and tried in a USB external enclosure in another PC.

If the HDD itself is made by Toshiba (which seems likely) you would need a generic testing program since Toshiba don't provide their own HDD checking program.

HDTune can be used from another PC.

I have recently bought a samsung SATA spintpoint 1tb hdd. The hdd gets stuck at the post. It says the name and no of the drive but nothing else. I have to reboot. Controller issues with the Sil3112A?? ...

No, the controller is just fine - but make sure that the RAID setting is disabled.
If the hard disk can't go beyond POST then it is damaged. Test it this way: put it in anther functioning pc, then install in it this free program
http://www.hdtune.com/files/hdtune_255.exe
Run the program and test the hard disk.
