Try rethreading your machine, sometimes the thread will get caught and this will cause the tightening to occur.

if thread is good quality you may have a sharp groove in your needle plate hole from needle breakage. if so, polish with emery tape.

Can you tell me what kind of thread should be used with my Brother XL 2600? I can't seem to download the manual online.

If you go to this site and read the manual online go to page 28 it will tell you what thread to use with what fabric. It would not let me copy/paste

Scroll past the "download the document" go to "table of contents" click on view all then scroll down to fabric/thread/needle combinations click on it and it will bring you to the page.....

http://www.retrevo.com/pdf/18806dj992/30/FABRIC%2C+THREAD%2C+AND+NEEDLE+COMBINATIONS#q=Brother+XL-2600

Essentially
60-80 weight thread for medium and light weight fabrics
50 for heavy weight
50-60 for stretch
30 for top stitching

hope this helps lew

The needle comes unthreaded when machine is started brother 2600 I

Pull both bottom and top thread to the back of the machine for about 10 cm or 4 inches out before you start stitching. Hold them loosly. Put fabric under the foot (the whole foot, don't start at the raw edge), make sure foot is down (to ensure tension). Start with the needle in the top position.
Your needle is likely to become unthreaded when the needle goes down and back up. But not if you hold the thread (and enough of it). Happy sewing.

Been trying to get machine to pick up bottom thread it works when faceplate is off but won't work when it' s on please help daughter has only used it a coulple times got it back out and wouldn't sew been...

I was reading your manual on the www.brother-usa.com site and it looks like you may have one of the machines that you do not have to pull up the bobbin thread to sew. Without seeing your machine, I don't know. You can call Brother at 1-877-276-8437 and ask why this is happening to you. They are pretty helpful.

Brother sewing machine ls-30 will not draw up the bobbin thread what should i do

Check the needle to see if it's damaged
Make sure the bobbin has a 3-5 inch thread tail
Then make sure the top thread has a 3-5 inch tail
Then hold the top thread tail with your fingers (away from the needle)
& use the hand wheel on the right hand side of the machine to slowly
Lower the needle in the bobbin area & see if the bobbin thread will pick
Up that way
