How do I fix my Kitchenaid food processor? Motor hums but center shaft is stuck and won't turn.

Hi Eric, you are going to have to get the motor out and yes it will be because of the spilled liquid fusing/rusting the motor armature shaft into the bronze bush. Those motors are very expensive so worth a go to save it. You will have to get the plastic sleeve off that shaft first before you can get the motor out. Removal will destroy the sleeve. I drill a hole through the top of the sleeve, side to side leaving about 5mm of meat at the top. I shackle a chain through it and attach it to my bench leg and then accelerate the whole motor unit away in a straight line. The shaft needs to be pointing at the attachment point on the bench or it can slip from your hands creating more grief. It will only take 1 to 3 pulls, 1st one doesn't work do it harder, same with second pull and harder for the 3rd. The chain needs to have welded links or the chain will break. That is far the easiest removal method I have found, other methods could involve hacksawing it down one side being careful not to damage the metal shaft or melting a line down 1 side to split it open with a soldering iron. Once that is off then remove base, detach motor wires from pcb and remove the screws under the plastic caps on top of the top housing. Then it will be working away with levers and a spanner on the shaft and CRC, sweat and time. If you strike trouble after that email me

Tip

Bringing and blending aplliances

Generally, a blade or grinding or blending/mixing part that is permanently attached to a metal shaft from the appliance motor is held on that shaft by a 'shear pin'. This pin breaks when something is put in the appliance that the grinder, mixer, blender can't gring, mix, or blend. This is to protect the motor from overload. Afterwards, The motor will continue to turn, but the blade or paddle, or whatever will not turn.
The shear pin needs to be replaced.
The shear pin passes through one side of the base of the bade/grinder/paddle assembly, through the motor shaft, and out the other side of the blade/grinder/paddle.
The piece of the pin must be removed from the shaft, and from the two sides of the blending/grinding part. This is generally a press-fit, and some effort may be required to accomplish this.
When the pieces have been removed, a common 'roll pin' of the appropriate diameter should be inserted to hol the turning part on the shaft. It must fit tightly, and some effort should be required to insert the new pin. // '); }// ]]> Back to Edit // '); }// ]]> Publish preview_graphic.jpg

How to Change a Magimix Food processor plastic spindle.
This is meant as a guide only BBS ltd takes no responsibility for any damage done. We always advise that this should be done by a Magimix approved service agent.

The spindle is the part that sticks out of the motor this drives the blades, knifes, discs and cones for the food processor, this part may become worn after time or use.
Cover the main body with a cloth so as not to damage the look of the food processing machine.
Place two blocks of wood about 10cms either side of spindle cover. Then place two flat screwdrivers Horizontal either side of Magimix food processor spindle
Push down on handle of screwdrivers apply even pressure (keeping eyes well away from the spindle cover, they can fly off fast sometimes.)
The spindle will rise.
This will leave the metal centre shaft, Replace with a spindle cover bought from
www.magimix-spares.co.uk. Make sure you choose correct model, usually named on front of machine, or phone 01252 727755 for help.
When replacing, make sure that the New Food processor spindle is lined up and slide the spindle onto the centre shaft. Make sure this goes all the way down by gently tapping with a hammer.
All blades and attachments should be checked before placing back onto spindle cover, if the inside is damaged, this could damage the spindle cover again, any blade, dough blade , disc support that is marked should be replaced.

BBS Limited is the approved and dedicated supplier of Magimix parts & accessories for all Magimix products.

We got a Kenwood Chef mod a901 as a gift but no service manual. This mixer has seen a lot of usage during its lifetime and I don't know whether it has been serviced regularly. Does it need regular...

The parts that may require service after a very long tim would be the gear box which would require a clean out and refill with grease and the output shafts which can be wiped clean and given a touch if grease as well. The motor bearings could do with the same treatment and all this calls for a strip down of the mixer. However, if there is no perceptable play in the drives and no strange noises, the unit is possibly best left alone with just the minimum lubrication being applied as you intimate.

The motor runs but the shaft that turns the blade does not turn.

Depending on the processor there are a few things that would cause this. If it isone piece then there may be a little gear box or there can be a direct connect from the motor to a coupler of some sort. On the 'bowl' end where the blades are they will be attached to a shaft. So the gear box could be stripped or worn out, the coupler could be loose on the shaft, or the blades are loose. The last two are the most likely. Usually if it has a gearbox it will juice bricks.

You need to see if you just need a replacement bowl or if it is the drive end. This is a bit tricky but you need to remove the bowl (or blender or?) stop the blades with something other than a finger ie a chopstick or knife. Then try to turn the shaft or coupler. If it turns then something is loose on that end. If it won't that means the coupler and blades are still on. There may be a safety on the power/base that will stop it form working without a container so its a bit harder to check. Usually it is just a rod that is pressed down.
It's worth a try but if you just check the container end carefully it will tell you just as well.

Once you know which end is the problem you can figure out what to do with it. If it is the blade and container end. That can be replaced fairly inexpensively. If it is the power end that can be as much or more than a entire new blender. You can get repair parts from the manufacturers repair depots or a repair parts place. A quick search with the make and model and repairs parts should find you several sources. As well you can go to the company website and look for repair under support.

Stripped gear on our Waring Pro FS150 Food Slicer

SmallAppliance.com has the part you need. Waring is no help at all. They only sell the replacement blade! Go to this web site: http://www.smallappliance.com/product.asp?pid=5147&cur=USD&cam=waring_parts&sid=18956&mid=34&gid=18971&prdCls=P&PartsPaNu=1&shopBy=Brand
and get the part. Thankfully they carry the motor gear you need. I had nothing but frustration dealing with Waring trying to get this part. Finally a nice Waring tech told me about smallappliance.com. Good Luck!

The black plastic clutch has a left-handed brass threaded insert. Temporarily remove the motor to hold the shaft and remove the brass insert by rotating clockwise.
