Open cabinet door to check if there is a heater coil present.
Auxiliary heat is often optional and this is the best way to find out .
There will be ceramic insulators with terminal bolts protruding from the inside cover plate .

What type of run capacitor do I need for a Ruud AC model UPNJ-031JAZ (outside unit)

Looks like it should be a 35/3 370VAC. If it is not legible on the old capacitor read the data plate on the fan motor and compressor. These should say "uf" or "mfd" rating. Good Luck!!

Need to know btu of rhem raka-024jaz Thanks

Hi, this is a Rheem 2 ton unit. For each ton of cooling, there are 12, 000 btu's. So your model number is a 024, that equals 24,000 btu's of cooling. Please don't forget to rate me on this. Thank you.

I only have two settings. Which is which and how so?

I think you probably have a heat pump. Aux heat is electrical resistance heat coils that produce heat when the heat pump can not produce enough to keep the temperature up (caused by low outside temperature or a problem with the refrigerant system). This resistance heat can be switched on by the emerg. heat button. It also can come on automaticlly (sp) and will be indicated by the aux being shown on the thermostat. Sometime if you set the heat up several degrees by thermostat the aux will come on to help the system catch up to the desired temperature setting. The emerg. heat is a way to turn on the AUX manually. If you do not have a heat pump system then it is possible that you have a heat pump thermostat installed on a non heat pump system. Emergency heat and Aux are both the secondary.

Hope this makes sense1

Central air and heat unit heat turns on for 1min and then heat turns on aux. heat

All aux. heat comes on when the thermostat calls for more than 2 degrees of the ambient temperature. Once the 2 degree gap is closed, aux. heat drops out of the circuit.
Some installers wire the thermostat to activate aux. heat every time heat is called for.In this wiring configuration the aux. heat stays on.

My Aux heat seems to run all the time.

Is it cold enough in your area to lock out the heat pump?If the heat pump isnt operating correctly the aux heat will come on then too.

Thermostat says ''Aux heat on'' and buzzes when we turn on heat

You most likely have a heat pump, the aux heat (usually electric) comes on anytime the room temperature is 4 degrees below the thermostat setting. Does the buzz go off when the aux heat lite goes out? If the aux heat does not shut off then the primary heater (heat pump) is not putting out enough heat to satisfy the thermostat. I need a little more info. Do you have a heat pump? Is it working?
