Can a valve tap in a 2004 Town Car be the tension on the timming chain?

B Mckenna, Timing chains can make noise, when you say the noise does go away sometimes, it sound more likely to be a valve lifter or tappet noise. You can pick up a mechanics stethoscope cheap and listen to the noise and hear/see if it is louder from the timing chain area or the valve covers to determine location.

Everytime i accelerate there is a sound from the engine and it has no pull/power.i

weak engine!!!! and noise... both real...!!!!
can it be made to make noise , PARKED (easy if true)
find a real mechanic that can diagnose noise, many can't.
find one that knows all the tests and has a stethoscope .
there are lots of tests to do. not just guessing.
that lost power is diagnosable too. tell him that.
or find a new mech.
find a real ASE mach. with patch on sleeve.
  1. the drop belts cold test.
  2. pry all objects connected to engine, brackets, and pry the exhaust header pipe. noise stop?

keep in mind the engine shakes normally and can make things
connected rattle and make noise, we look at that first.
then work to harder problems.
i have an electronic stethoscope that i can hear deep problems
in the engine..
are you going to replace the $2500 transmission , on a guess?
so pick that last ,right?
The power loss , can be EFI issues
did you SCAN this PCM? and get any DTC errors?????????
scan it.
if an intake valve sticks it will misfire bad (pretend #2 cyl)
the ECU then throws P0302, misfire #2 , and the HLA makes
a huge racket any pro can hear with stethoscope. at valve cover.

see some here.

Loud squeaking.

To me, I think I am hearing a dry bearing.
However, an old worn out belt can make the same sound!
You could take off the belt and try spinning the pulleys to hear which is noisy, or you could use a mechanic's stethoscope to find out.
A mechanic's stethoscope is a really long screwdriver or metal rod about 2 or 3 feet long that they put on different parts (put the handle end to your ear) to hear the noise each part is making.
If your belt is good, try the alternator bearings.
There is also an idler pulley or maybe 2 that could be noisy.
Be blessed.

What is this noise? Power steering? Only makes this noise when A/C is off.

You did a good job of recording the noise. Start with the easy first. Check the level of the power steering fluid. It should be up to the bottom of the neck, and at the proper level on the dipstick that is a part of the power steering cap. Low fluid can make the power steering pump "howl".
Next, find a "mechanic's stethoscope". That is something like a long screwdriver (16" to 24") or a long slender stick. Put the business end of the screwdriver on the alternator, the power steering pump, or the idler pulley housing and put your ear to the handle end. One of those units, which is being driven by the serpentine belt, may have a bad bearing in it. You hould be quickly able to hear the offending=noise-making part. Understand that some parts like the idler pulley or the tensioning pulley may be difficult or impossible for you to reach with your improvised "stethoscope".

CODE PO205 - IS INJECTOR 5. YOU NEED TO USE FUEL INJECTOR NOID TEST LIGHT OR A STETHOSCOPE TO CHECK ALL FUEL INJECTORS TO SEE OR HEAR WHAT FUEL INJECTOR NOT WORKING.USE TEST LIGHT IF BLINKS FUEL INJECTOR GETTING POWER.THE STETHOSCOPE USE IT LIKE A DOCTOR TO HEAR WHAT FUEL INJECTORS WORKING.YOU SHOULD HEAR CLICKING NOISE IF YOU HEAR NO INJECTOR NOISE AND IT IS GETTING POWER.THE FUEL INJECTOR IS FAULTY.

Help!!! my litmann 4000 wont turn on even with new batteries!!:(:( any ideas usually after fiddling with it then it work but not this time and i need it!

Hi,the problem is obviously from the internal battery contact of your device,or a the cord that delivers power to the unit is broken, you can take apart the stethoscope and fix it,but as a warning, the litmann 4000 is a very fragile and sensitive electronic stethoscope that requires high technique and expertise to fix,so i will suggest you contact a qualified stethoscope technician,so you don't end up ruining your stethoscope.

Thanks and take care

Altinator making noise when turninng off

I would suspect it is something else, unless you got your ear, hand or stethoscope on the Alt to hear it. The alt bearings may be going bad. Should hear that ,running with a stethoscope on it.
