Question about Audio Players & Recorders

1 Answer

I recently purchased an LG NB3740 Soundbar and everything works great as far as sound. The problem I'm having is that when I try to access the home screen menu to search thru apps, settings and other content, it will only stay on the menu for a split second then revert to an optical page that says something about using Optical in..... Now, the system is hooked to the tv using the provided optical cable and I also used an HDMI cable. I've tried unplugging one and using only the other but nothing seems to allow me to use the menu screen. I still need to look thru the disc manual that came with it, on my computer but does anyone have any thoughts or ideas? Thx

Disconnect the HDMI cable and use only the optical cable for better sound. Don't connect both at the same time. Once the set sees the optical cable it switches to it.

Ok, only used the optical hookup and the problem is, the bar has a home setting which shows on the tv screen. I believe it's using the HDMI for the video feed. Which, I don't understand as I thought optical carried both sound and video?? I used the optical to go from directTV to the bar and HDMI from the bar to the tv. Same issue.... I think the problem lies in the input setting for my Vizio tv. The directv is HDMI 1 and the sounbar is on HDMI 2....why it doesn't read it as optical i have no clue. But like i said, if i just use optical, i get no pic as far as using the home scren of the bar for my settings and apps. Should i be using the directv as a go btwn??

SOURCE: hooking up a sony playstation 3 with digital optical cable

Here's one solution, if you have an audio output from your tv, you can go from the audio output on your tv to the audio input on your receiver that way anything that is playing on your tv for example, playstation 3, dvd player etc. Anything playing on your tv will have audio on your onkyo home theater system. The other thing I would try if you want to hook ps3 directly to receiver is go to your connection settings on your ps3 menu and change your connection method to digital optical cable.

SOURCE: Sony HT-CT100 soundbar + STR-DG720 = Yes misery, no audio

It's not going to do whayt you want. On the premise that you can't run a dedicated receiver to a dedicated receiver. One processor is not going to override another. The soundbar is a "self contained" closed system. Much like Bose products. I understand what you are looking for, it just can't be done with this product. Options: replace the sony soundbar with a passive polk soundbar or similar and keep the AV receiver or: Return the AV receiver and use the nice, but limited sony amplified soundbar. Hope this helps

SOURCE: I have an LG TV

Hello,
There are two things that I can suggest.
1-Test your optical cables to make sure they a good on a known working source because they are very fragile and break very easily.
2-Try to eliminate the use of optical output from tv to receiver. There may be a problem from the HDMI to optical conversion at the tv. Instead, try running the audio directly from the source to the receiver, and let the tv deal with video input only.
Hope this helps,
Good Luck.

SOURCE: I have an RCA home theatre...model rt2910. I have

You should have the HDMI plugged into the Home theater unit. The theater unit then is attached to the TV using the HDMI out.
The home theater unit passes the HDMI through to the TV while playing the audio for you.
You will likely need to select the correct source on your RT2910.
Here is a link to the manual.

See the section entitled "Connecting to HDMI Components" for an illustration of what I have described above.

Connecting a sound bar

Typically you will connect the RCA audio output jacks to the audio input jacks on the sound bar, but if your television does not have RCA audio output, you may have to buy additional hardware to make the soundbar work. If your TV has a headphone jack, then you will need to purchase an 1/8" Headphone connector to RCA Connector cable from a local electronics or audio store. If your TV doens't have any audio outputs, you may need to purchase a digital tuner box and connect it to your TV and soundbar.

Sound bar compatibility

Make sure red glow is coming from TV's Opt out cable when TV is on. If it is, it is working. The best solution is use an LG soundbar with an LG TV. There is a differnce in digital outputs and with a "service remote" (used by authorized LG servicers) you might be able to change the TVs factory setting to make the vizio soundbar work. but I think you'll be better off with the LG soundbar.

Need to multi region Phillips Soundbar

HI Ian,
Have also just purchased a Philips HTS8140 with Philips LCD screen.
Found a result on web as follows:
1.Turn on TV
2.Turn on Sound Bar System.
3.Press eject.
4.Press 9 9 9 0 (0 being Region Free or place the desired region #)
(a message displaying "region 0",or the region you chose, will appear on the screen.)
5.Switch soundbar off to soundby.
6.Turn player back on and it should be either region free or the region you selected.

So far I have not been able to check with anyother disc exept region 4.

Hope this is of help for you!
