Try to always list the model number. Something like 917289472 would be the model number. Here is a wiring diagram for that model. Note the test voltages with unit running. Check the wiring from the regulator to the ignition switch and from the switch to the battery. It is possible for the ignition switch to be bad and keep it from charging. Test at these terminals with voltage tester. You should have more than 12 V at the regulator( diagram says 9-16 volts). If you need the manual you can go to www.searspartsdirect.com and download diagram. Enter YOUR model number. Good luck!

check the kill switch and the wire it could be that a small piece of the covering came off and is grounding to the deck or frame there by killing the engine the jerkink of the mower maybe whats causing the wire to come into contact with metal..good luck

It sounds like your charge system is not working. If you jump the battery the engine will run with a weak battery but the pto clutch needs a strong battery to stay engaged.Try this to test it,after you jump it leav the jumper cables hooked up and try to engage the blade clutch,if it runs it is either a battery that wont take a charge or a charge system not working. If you put a volt meter on the battery while the engine is running and the voltage is 13 volts the charge system is working and the battery is bad.

If you changed the belt make sure it did not interfere with the wire that runs from the pto clutch, sometimes that belt can rub on the wire and wear through it,also if you had the clutch off make sure you aligned the steel retainer bolt that sets in the alignment hole on the pto clutch, this keeps the clutch from spring when disengaged if you don't get that pin through the hole in clutch it can push on the clutch and bind it.Also it may be possible to plug that pto switch in backwards. Also if you jumped the fuse out it may now have burnt the switch or wiring somewhere.

Do you have a volt meter or a 12 volt test light?..if you do you can see where you are losing your voltage at..but i would suspect the PTO switch is bad..i hope this has helped.....Keith
