Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Does anyone have the pinout for E-MU's two versions of the EDI connector?

I'm too tired and over worked to reverse engineer the connectors and was hoping that someone already had done the work. I want to skip the PWM-PSU on the PCI controller board and use an external PSU instead. As soon as I can I'll try to replace the whole PWM-PSU inside the 1820m with serially regulated supply voltages, as it's as horrible as it can be to see how ugly what comes out of the internal regulator, now that the caps are on their last legs.

SOURCE: Bad power supply and regulator circuit

I had the Same issue. on a 50PF9431D/37 set. Many Plasma Set's use a LJ44-00118A PS-505-PH Power supply from Samsung. Known to have this common problem. If you can, or have a friend that can Solder components?. Unplug your set remove the back panel & locate your power supply. It will be the PCB in the center of the set just above the Video/Audio connections. http://www.shopjimmy.com/power-supply-unit-lj44-00118a-from-philips-50mf231d-40.htm. Is a Link to a photo of the PCB. Make a note of the locations of all cable connections then unplug them all. Un-install PCB, Check all Fuse first. I believe their is 5 or 6 of them on the PCB. Then replace the two 3300uf 10v 105C Radial capacitors at C8060 & C8059. Look to see if the Caps are deformed and or split at the top. The location of the caps are in the Lower bottom edge of the PCB. A local shop may Carrie them if not, digi-key has them. Part # http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=493-1754-ND. Total cost was $7 with S/H.

SOURCE: Does anyone know which connector to plug into on power supply

Double check all the connections from the AC line and from the power supply to the other circuit boards. The connectors you are mentioning are identical as per the picture below.
If you need a new power supply, you can find one from this link.

No, the voltages are just fine. The fault must be either in the PMW itself or in the HT transformer - and the only way to fix that is to replace the entire inverter board.

SOURCE: I have a Westinghouse LCD television with built-in

I am a TV repairman and I have repaired TV's almost everyday for the last 30 years. And I know from experience that if an electrolytic is warm on the top of them that they are starting to go bad. My suggestion is this: Take the one's that are warm out and if you have a capacitor checker, check them to see if they are weak in capacitance. If you don't have a checker the best way is to replace them. It will be worth the effort to find out. I very often, take capacitors out of a spare board (not the same) and use them. I am assuming you are referring to the power supply as the main board. The capacitors that are in line with the voltage to the inverter is 24 volts and they sustain the voltage and keep it up under a load to light up the backlight. You could look and see that some boards put the voltage by the pins on the connectors and this may help if it does in this case. However, the inverter has switching circuits to produce the high voltage to the transformers on the inverter to light up the backlight and if they don't turn on then no backlight. Inverters are highly intergrated so replacement is best. Also there are fuses on the inverter labeled F1, F2 etc. Check them for continunity. It the fuses are open then you for sure have a bad inverter board.

I having pcs motherboard, and also lg driver, but the edi pin and also motherboard edi pin is not suitable . . . what about the solution

If I'm interpreting what you are saying correctly it sounds like you are either trying to use the on board network connector on your mother board to connect to a Audio Dock, or you are using the wrong kind of Audio dock together with your PCI or PCIe E-MU card.
Scenario 1: You'll most likely fry the network connector and the Audio dock or if you are really lucky only one of them. Fingers crossed that it's the cheaper of the two that goes.
Scenario 2: The 1616/1616m will only work with the PCIe version of the controller card from E-MU. The 1820/1820m will only work with the PCI version of the controller board.
Again, if you are lucky your hardware is still functional, but I wouldn't bet on it. Combining the wrong controller with the wrong Dock will most likely smell a bit funny after a while.
The PCI version of the controller board provides power to the whole 1820 and considering how hot the docks can get you can bet that it's quite a lot of current that is provided.
I've tried to figure out the pinout of the EDI-connector and there's a 48VDC going into the dock's onboard PWM-regulator. This is apparently generated from a floppy-power connector providing an additional source of 12VDC to the step-up PWM on the controller board.

My edi cable on my 1820m no longer clicks into place and occasionally falls out. Is this a dodgy cable or the actual socket? It's the same with both ends of the cable.

Hi.
Check if the small transparent plastic "fingers" on the cable connector are intact. If they are not you'll have to get a new cable.
I'd recommend using a standard cat 6 network cable. It has to have normal straight pinning. You should keep the cable as short as you can, but I haven't had a single problem with cables up to 5 meters in length. Regarding shielded cable or UTP, I'd say that this depends on where you use the equipment. Keep in mind that a shielded cable may introduce ground loops and may require an isolation transformer on the computer mains cable.

I hope this helps.

TRYING TO HOOK UP MU POWER BUTTON NEED TO KNOW

Hi there
The front panel connectors are mainly,
  • harddisk activity connector
  • power switch connector
  • reset switch connector
  • power LED connector
  • speakers connector
  • USB connector
Harddisk activity connector
This normally comes red in colour and is labeled as HDD-LED
Power switch connector
This comes green in colour and is labeled as POWER-SW
Reset switch connector
This usually comes grey in colour and is labeled as RST-SW
Power LED connector
This is usually green in colour and is labled as PWR-LED
Speakers connector
This speaker will give different beep sounds during boot to tell the user if there is any errors. It occupies 4 pins, however only 2 is important for the function. Be sure to connect the red coloured cable to the positive polarity and the black to the negative.
