On a Lucent Partner 18D system I have to press a line to answer a call. How can I program to answer at pick-up?

My guess is that your phone is not programmed to ring immediately. A Partner system doesn't have the ability to make you press a line to answer a call if it's already ringing. IIRC you can press FEATURE and dial 00 and look at the line buttons. If they're not lit steady green, you don't have immediate ring.

Ringing assignments are programmed from Centralized programming at extension 10 or 11. The lines will be lit steady green for immediate, slow blink for delayed, or fast blink for no ring. Consult your system manual for how to get into Centralized programming and program your extension.

Does auto answer feature is available on Norstar phones? if yes, how?. Thanks!

Yes in system programming, handsfree answer back must be enabled. There are several different phone system models that the M7310 phone works on. I need the model number of the phone system to give accurate programming directions.

How do we change the number of rings before the answering machine picks up?

It depends on how it's forwarded. If you're talking intercept ringing IRNA, then it's system program 203. If you are looking at CF-No Answer, it's programmed in system programming 619 for each extension, or by default in program 202.

These features require a Programming Manual and Installer access to the SYSTEM programming.

Incoming calls briefly ring once then automatically kick over to answering machine. I cannot get any incoming calls

Are you using norstar voicemail system?

If you are and know how to get into the admin programming of it, then you go to the line programming and select the number of rings before the vmail system answers.

set the rings to "3", then the lines should ring 3 times on your phone, then on the 4th ring the vmail system will answer

Your system has been programed by your alarm company for remote programing by their techical department. They can access your system to change codes, reset your system's time/date and do remote diagnostics. Most security system manufacturers allow this remote access by having the security system answer the telephone after so many rings, the security system then picks up and waits for a frequency tone from the security dealer's computer. Once this occurs the dealer can access your system. Your dealer may have to change the program settings if this is causing interference. A second possibility is do you have remote access to your system? Some systems have the ability for the home owner to remotely access their system from any outside telephone. This allows the customer to arm/disarm their system while away from home. This could be causing your problem.
