I have a JD 2305. It runs/ran fine up until this morning after the 1st snow fall and cold temps, (-5C) arrived. The tractor turns over and idles great. I let it warm up at 1/3 trottle for 15 minutes before trying to use it. Hydrolics all nice and warm, same goes for the engine and gear box. But, when i went to start using the machine by selecting low or high gear and engage it the tractor dies. I high an audible click from something electronic under the hood engaging or disengaging followed by the engine shutting down. It didn't do this 2 weeks ago before the cold temps arrived and it ran perfectly. I think some type of solenoid must be kicking out and shutting down the engine? Any guesses?

Without being there to trouble shoot, this is just a guess. Does it have safety switches to kill the engine if no weight is on the seat?
If so, maybe it is defective.

SOURCE: Tractor Will Not Move And Dies When Brake Is Released

I would check the wires and clean the connectors and make sure seat switch is working. If that is not working, it's like getting off the seat without holding the brake/clutch pedal down or getting off seat with blades engaged. Both will cause engine to die.

SOURCE: When I engage the front PTO the engine dies.

There is somthing in the PTO that is binding up. I am assuming the PTO is for the mower blades. The belt(s) could be binding up, not on the pulleys, etc. The blades should turn by hand easily.

Sounds like a Charging system: alternator problem... have your Auto-zone check for your alternator if it is shorted...take the alternator off or haul the whole tractor to the store...they will run a free test...

You have the same M806808 fuel shut off solinoid as the 4000 series tractors. They use a timer/heater called a thermistor. This is common to your simptoms, I just dont see it for the 2305. Talk to your dealer, and ask him to look up a thermistor for your tractor.....Dont let him tell you have a fuel pump problem...Its a scam. Get back with me if they **** you around. The fuel shut off soleniod has three wires, you can check them for voltage. Just disconnect them and check voltage between the black and blue and the black and red. On the tractor side. You will have to crank the motor to start the timer circiut. after you start ( or just hit the key for 2 seconds) you should have voltage on the red ,during crank, and voltage on blue while the key is in the run position. If you do, the problem is in your soleniod. Remove it and do the same thing to confirm.

I have a JD 2010, seem to be running fine , left it idleing out in the yard, while in the house about 30 min , went back out to find that it had quit, now it will not fire, where to start? thanks John

If left idling for too long the plug will blacken up
Remove & clean lay on head to check for spark if none then replace
Check air filter is clean & check operation of cold start mechanism
