Everything is freezing in the vegetable drawer

For this problem, its indicating towards problem with damper assembly.----------

The working procedure of this unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the fridge section and the fridge section gets cold. The air from freezer to refrigerator passes from the section, in that section the damper is located. ----------- The damper is operated by a motor.Its a complete damper assembly with motor included in it.--The damper has door.Which closes and open with the help of motor.In your case the damper door is remained open, its not closing.Due to this the cool air from freezer section is running in to fridge section non-stop.Due to this the vegetables and other food in the bottom drawer freezing.--------- In this problem the damper assembly needs to be replaced.---------------

This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Frost is building up in bottom freezer. Appliance is running nonstop. I believe that the freezer drawer has been shut completely. Foods in refrigerator section are fine; foods in freezer section are...

Frost can build up for multiple reasons. Most common is the start os an iceblock. Other reasons can include condensation from door being left open or opening too much. It can also happen from backsplash from the inlet tube for the ice maker. If the fridge is running non stop. It sounds like the ice block is forming and the temps are not getting to the program temps. If at factory setting the freezer should be at or around 0 degrees and fridge should be between 42 and 48 degrees. Has the fridge shutdown at all to go into defrost? The defrost timer may have went out and is causing an iceblock. If there is an ice block always change bimetal/ defrost thermostat.

Mod# RFG297AA:Need to remove the freezer section or handle/latch

there are two screws on each side of the bottom freezer unit you need to remove. they can be removed after de-installing the front bin with the two plastic sleeves on the right and left. Then you can remove the bottom drawer door and the bins inside. next, open both top doors and angle the fridge with one door inside the door frame, then "walk" the fridge over the doorstoop, turning towards the inside door as you push. Follow thru with the rest of the unit, then re-attach the bottom drawer.

Water is getting into the refrigerator. there is

If the fridge has the freezer on top - the problem is in clogged drain under the evaporator.Whenever the defrost cycle is activated (every 6-12 hours), the water will drain not to the drain pan underneath the fridge, but into the air vents between the sections. Depending on the make/model to get to the drain line you may need either:
  • to remove the back cover in the freezer section;
  • remove the bottom of the freezer section;
  • remove the console with controls on the ceiling of the fresh food section
  • get behind the fridge, find the drain line going to the pan under the fridge remove the drain line and clean.
Good luck.

I purchased a bottom freezer Amana refrigerator when we built our house in 1999. The produce in the vegetable drawer keeps freezing! Everything else in the fridge is fine. Why does this happen?

Usually on bottom freezer fridges, there are two vents at the bottom of the freezer compartment where the cold air goes back into the freezer (cold air enters the fridge through the vent at the top/back of the fridge.)

If the vents at the back of the fridge are covered, the cold air will settle to the bottom of the fridge after it enters, and freeze your vegetables. The problem could be caused by ice build up in the evaporator coil of the freezer section also, but this will probably warrant a checkup from a pro.

One thing that can cause ice to build up inside those vents is moist air seeping in through a faulty door gasket. A thin coat of ordinary Vaseline on the gasket surface can help it make a better seal.

Warm fridge

If you are sure the fan is running either the damper motor (vent in fridge section) is bad and not opening or there is ice in the return vents and not letting air circulate. Take out the bottom drawers in the fridge and look down the two return vents in each corner with a flashlight. If they are iced up the top will not cool.
