Can i feed my hamster rat and mouse food?

If this was the other way around, I would say it'd be okay for a couple of days. Hamsters have a pretty advanced digestion system and can get bloaty and sick when fed the wrong things. But never fear if you google hamster food you can find some more ''organic?" supplements until you can make it back to your local store. Rats/Mice on the other hand are made to hoard their food. They don't stuff it in their cheeks, although mine likes to sometimes it seems, they like to hide their food. Doing this they burn more energy and need a higher energy/protein diet.

I don't buy rat food, I make my own. I did the same with my hamster too with the store bought mix. Here's a list from my memory you can give hamsters that you may have around the house.

Carrots
Apples
Granola (Good for teeth!)
Cooked red meat (like hamburger meat)
Water Chestnuts
Nuts
Shelled almonds (more fun!)
Bread/Toast (My friend made peanut buttered toast for her hammy)
Fish (fully cooked!)
Eggs (Scrambled/Boiled no fried)
Cheese (in moderation)
Mealworms and crickets (you probably don't have these but for future reference :) )
Dog Biscuits (Try to stay away from some high in protein, and it's good for their teeth!)

Hope that helps!

I have been over chared from the m@m meat store in Hinton Alberta I am 66 and live on a fixed income.I have discovered that this happened more then once from the same woman, don't know if she i

Sounds like a civil matter. Find your receipts and get proof of the overcharge and file a small claims case.

Why did you not notice this when you checked out. I watch everything as it is scanned. If it does not ring up right I immediately bring it to the cashiers attention. The delay on your part may not help your situation.

Are you supposed to put water in the water bowl every time you smoke meat?

Not necessarily. It depends on what you're smoking. Some meats require moisture or they will dry out. Pork is one that quickly comes to mind, as does white meat fish. However, something like beef jerky, no you do not need water. And then, there are times you can add flavor to meat by using a dark beer instead of water Really good for smoking Baby Back Ribs.. The beer should be at room temperature before using.

There are some great websites that great smoking recipes. Just do a Google search for smoking meat, pork fish, etc. Or search for "How to use a smoker."

Hope this helps you come up with some great smoke food.

Bought little chief model 20 smoker don't know how to use it...

The Little Chief smoker, manufactured by Smokehouse, is available in front-loading and top-loading styles. Both models are electric, depending on a 250 W electric heating element to supply the heat. The smokers can accommodate a maximum of 25 lb. of meat or fish. These smokers are for outdoor use only, and plug into a 120 V AC electrical outlet.

  1. Brining
    • For extra flavor, treat your meat, poultry or fish to a brine bath before smoking. Use 1 cup of kosher salt for each gallon of water. Consider adding molasses, spices or even a pureed jalapeno pepper or two into the brine solution. Leave thicker pieces of meat in the brine solution overnight. Fish only need to be soaked in brine for around four hours.

    Wood Chips
    • Mesquite and hickory are probably the two most widely used woods for smoking, but apple and pecan wood can give your smoked foods another tasty dimension. As with anything else, experiment to create your own favorites.

Smoker wood is sold either as chips or chunks. Use large chunks to smoke thicker pieces of meat; the chips will be spent before they have thoroughly smoked the meat. You can continually replenish the chips, perhaps every half hour, for as long as you wish to smoke the food, but the job can be tedious with a large roast that takes hours to smoke.

Smoke the wood well before it is introduced to the heat. Chips will be completely soaked in a half hour, but chunks of wood will require an overnight soaking before use.

    Smoking
    • When your meat is thoroughly brined, and the wood soaked, carefully lay out the meat on the smoking racks. Make sure that there is some space between each piece. Place fish on the rack with the skin-side down. Drain your wood and place it into the smoker on top of the heating element. Use the small pot that is provided to keep moisture or collect juices. Place the racks into the smoker and close up the box. Plug in the electrical cord and within about 10 minutes, you should see smoke gently trickling out from the smoker's vents. The thicker the food inside the smoker, the longer the process will take.

Frezeer was unpluged by accident. All mear thawed out. Is it ok to refrzeethe meat and eat it later.

Is it safe to refreeze food that has thawed completely?
Once food is thawed in the refrigerator, it is safe to refreeze it without cooking,
although there may be a loss of quality due to the moisture lost through defrosting. After cooking raw foods which were previously frozen, it is safe to freeze the cooked foods. And if previously cooked foods are thawed in the refrigerator, you may refreeze the unused portion.

If you purchase previously frozen meat, poultry or fish at a retail store, you can refreeze if it has been handled properly.

How do you set the airvents for cooking a chicken? How many coals do use?

you need to experiment a bit, good method is to have very hot grill, step meat inside for 5min with vents open - this will from outside skin, then close the vents and lower the temperature to allow meat to cook.

i usually close airvents for any meat as this preserves bit of humidity and meat is soft and tender inside, last two to five minutes i open airvents to allow formation of the skin on the meat.

usually you keep grilling time 1kg/1h you can extend that for game meat up to 1h20min/1kg and you need to reduce it for fish to 30min/1kg

you can actually smoke your meat, chicken or fish in your grill as well. but you did not ask for that :-)

now, how many charcoals, check what is the weight of the meat and about 1/3 to 1/2 of that weight is needed to cook it, in general, per kilogram of meat you need sufficient charcoal for sustaining fire for 1hr, that rule applies to any charcoal or wood cookers, grills or bbq. brand is irrelevant, even from this same brand, you need to experiment a bit to get best results. enjoy!

Meat is too salty to eat

No, I didn't fix it, but I tried smoking some fish filets today and after using the brine mix, the fish is so salty I can't eat it.

I would like to know how to use the product I bought, but I don't think I should have to pay you to tell me how to fix a problem.

    So, thanks anyway

    Meat freezer burns

    Hi,tomonbow
    ngafm at your service,

You said, you are getting freezer burn in only two days, right?

Are you putting the meat in proper freezer bags and squeezing
air out as you zip lock the bag?
If you do not use proper freezer bags you will always get freezer burn on meats!

WAIT ! This will not happen in two days!
Seems to me something else has happened to your meat prior to your purchase and it probably is not the freezer at fault.

If it happens to meat that you feel was not frozen when you bought it, check with the store of purchase to see if it came into them frozen before it was put in their refrigerator case!
Most super markets receive cases of frozen meat and then put them in the walk in refrigerator, or refrigerator case to present them for sale to the customers and they defrost in the case.

Then we think we are buying meat that is fresh and never been frozen!
Fresh meat will not freezer burn in 2 days unless it has happened previously to the time you bought it.

Also when you freeze any meat you buy, repack it in proper freezer bags and not just any zip lock bag!

But I believe it happened before you bought it.
And i'll bet it all came from the same store.
that's why some people shop at a butcher shop or Costco type store where the meat is fresher and sells out faster!
    Bless you.

Please give me a good rating before you sign off.
    Thank You.
Let me know the verdict. I think I'm right on target!
Do some investigating and ask the store some hard questions!
