If the unit is fully charged and has a clearv view of the sky but fails to connect then the SIIRF chip is damaged. Expensive to repair and often not worth the trouble. This problem is not covered by warranty as it has been induced by misuse.
Plugging it to the Dc when staring the engine will do this type of damage. often not in manual to avoid this practice. only brand i have seen that warns about this is marbella altina, which is a good brand of GPS ( see marbella australia FAQ page )regarding what they say bout using GPS. Not just GPS but mobile phones can also be damaged this way.

Garmin and TOMTOM seem to be more prone tom this type of damage than the Altina. I write for many fixya type groups and rarely see any Altina problems compared to garmin and TomTom. With 1,.2 million GPS in circulation they have to be good

Good day - i have a Garmin Nuvi 3490 which was working perfectly now suddenly displays error message map data is not available any solutions to fix this problem? thank you

Has yours been updated recently? I updated mine, (about a year ago), on the website and it wiped all the map data.
I think some of the more recent software update versions have caused problems for certain sat nav models.
Try logging onto the Garmin website, connect you sat nav to you computer and check it has the current software updates. Older models sometimes need to be reset to an previous version of the software to work correctly. To do this you might have to contact Garmin directly by Email to get them to send you the correct software version.
Hope this helps.

I receive an error when I open my computer. It says "vaio sat survey.exe has stop working.. Windows is looking for solutions

Open Run window by pressing the Windows logo key+R key together.
Then, type "msconfig" in the run window.
Then, click on startup tab.
Click to uncheck the VAIO Survey option. Click on apply and OK.

Stop the Oasis2.exe services.
In Run window, type "services.msc" and locate the oasis2.exe services and stop them.
This will resolve the error of VAIO Sat Survey.
If issue persists, uninstall the VAIO Sat Survey or VAIO Survey software.
Click on start>Control Panel>Programs and features>programs>Uninstall a program>Application Manager for VAIO>VAIO Survey/VAIO Sat Survey-Uninstall.
Restart the computer.

Satellites not found

low battery level is one reason for poor connection to satellites. However your problem may be a faulty SIIRF chip. Now I have to say that connectinhg the unit prior to starting the engine can damage the chip so refrain fromn doing this in any future GPS operation. The reapair for bad chip if not under warranty is arms and legs cost

go to Marbella Australia ( Marbella Altina) website to look at two units in products area A 8010 and A860 I think both are excellent units well supportede and maps are Polstar for whatever country you need. use the contact button to make an enquiry or go to the order button you will be contacted back within hours, great service!

Garmin are OK but jolly expensive to repair and upgrade and have lousy backup service

If you decide to buy a relaible GPS get an ALTINA they make the boards for most GPS units on the market Except tom Tom and Mio which are cheap and nasty there are so many faults on those brands on this forum i am surprised they are still in business.

Error when turning on machine.

I have a feeling that this has something to do with software on the hard drive. Either the software needs to be restored on it or it could have crashed. A Konica/Minolta dealer in your area should be contacted to send a technician out to look at the situation.
