Exposure problem with D200

it seems like the camera is not closing the fstop to its appropriate setting anymore: unless I use the open f2.8 in A mode with the attached 35/2.8 I won't get a correctly exposed picture. i will try other lenses, but I am afraid its the aperture trigger that's not working because the exposure readouts seem fine. any recommendations will be appreciated...
