How do i fix my volume mixer.

It opens, and the buttons that are there do work, but it is only showing ONE button for chrome, despite the fact that I have TWO different windows open making noise. It won't let me mute ONE... mutes all or nothing. Help!

Download and install the audio driver and reconfigure the audio properties via the device driver to use only one.

If I am thinking of the right sound go back into your audio mixer and turn down or off the mic pre amp or gain. On mine I have two preamp setting and one gives me a squealing sound if enabled.

Usually is labeled "mic boost 2"

NO SOUND IN ALL WEB BROWSER

Solution 1)
by default the sound volume starts at 0 level so when you start any video increase volume manually..

Solution 2)
This is what worked for me in Google Chrome : Start playing a video in youtube, then click on on the sound button in the bottom right hand side of the? computer screen. Then click on 'mixer' if you have Vista. You will see a new sound bar in there for youtube flash videos. Make sure it is not on zero. By default it was on zero on my computer even though rest of the sounds were on high. That fixed the problem in Chrome

My volume button doesnt work on my blackberry bold 9000 is there any way to fix this or work around it to turn up the volume

You volume button needs to be replaced. If you want to do it yourself, the good news is, it's not too hard to open it. Here is an Blackberry Repair Guide that shows how to open a Blackberry. If you want somebody else to do it for you go to Blackberry Repair.

is the mute button above the keyboard pressed? Are you running windows 7? Does the soundcard show up in your device manager? Also, on windows 7, the volume mixer provides separate channels for applications, rather than devices as in xp. Click the volume icon, open mixer, and check to see if the internet and other applications are muted. I use a DV6000 and this caused me trouble since this computer had a bad GPU that I fixed, which causes the ssound to stop working when it goes bad. The computer ended up being fine, I had simply forgot about the mixer.
If that doesn't work, try re-installing the sound drivers. If that doesn't work, you might have a faulty BGA (nvidia) chip, which will have to be reflown.

Got an acer aspire 5517 and the build in mic is not working how do i fix this?

All I can think of is maybe it's muted? Anyway, Go to, control panel>sounds devices> goto the, Mic tab and then "enable" it.

if using windows xp or higher then you can see it ...in your Taskbar... and also goto "Sound Device" & from there, find "Mic" tab & uncheck the "Mute" button or raise the volume etc ...

I used the FN + Mute button on my panasonic cf-w5 toughbook and now I get no sound when un-muting. This is the second one recently that has done this. Headphone jack will not work either. Is there another...

Double-click the "volume control" icon, to open the "sound mixer" control. Move all the sliders to "maximum", and remove any "mute" check-boxes.

Do you have a "FN + something" key to increase the volume?

I plugged a mic to my dell laptop but it isnt working, do i need a sound card?

No, if you have a jack to plug the mic into you have a soundcard. However the mic is probably muted in the mixer software. Go to the control panel, left click on sounds and audio, then click on the advanced button; this should open the mixer in the play back mode, at the top left of the mixer go to options and select properties, a new page will come up with a radio button showing playback or recording, switch the radio button to the recording list and check everything in the checkboxes including the mic and press ok. A new mixer should come up with your recording deviced, from here you can set your microphone device volume.

I cannot increase the volume and it is very low. I have tried using all the tools that I can find but to no avail.

I know this is an old post, but since it's the first Google result that shows up, here's the solution:

On the Q19wb press the '1' button, then use the arrow buttons to highlight "Audio Adjust" and press the '2' button to select. Then highlight and select "Volume" using the arrow keys and the '2' button. Then, adjust to a higher volume using the up arrow button.

Note: if you aren't getting any sould from your monitor follow similar steps above but select "Mute" and "Off" in the options.

Volume&thinkpad button

Most IBM / Lenovo Thinkpads have hardware volume control with apropriate buttons above the keyboard (volume up, down and mute). Gnome in Ubuntu is configured in such a way, that the keypresses are trapped (this is correct), apropriate volume window is displayed (correct) and Gnome volume control is modified. Last step is actually wrong - the keys in Thinkpads control the volume hardware directly, so every keypress turns the volume up/down regardless of sound card settings (in Ubuntu case - this would be Alsa mixer). Current behaviour results in volume being changed twice - for example if I press the volume up button, I get volume reduction via Gnome sound mixer plus volume reduction via hardware control. Effectively this creates an exponential (and not linear as it should be) volume change. In short - it is very difficult to control volume, especially relatively quiet sounds, with volume keys only.
The "patch" solution is to decouple Gnome mixer from hardware buttons. Of course it could be done manually, by deleting apropriate key actions in System->Preferences->Keyboard shortcuts, but this also disables windows showing volume. A better thing (but more complex) would involve reading /proc/acpi/ibm/volume and displaying the volume window according to this value at each volume button keypress.
I tested this on T21, T42 and Thinkpad 600. I guess only some R series notebooks (R31 etc.) would not be affected, as these do not have hardware mixer.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Press hardware volume key (eg. volume up) on a Thinkpad
2. Observe the volume change - it is changed in hardware mixer (correct) and in Gnome volume control (incorrect)

I hope this helps...

Volume and mute buttons suddenly stopped working

Try changing the batteries. Most times the "tivo" buttons will work but the "tv" buttons will stop working when the batteries are low.

If you have done that, go back into settings and program the remote again for your tv, then give it a shot.
