Is the scanner wireless. I have a Canon wireless scanner and have an occasional problem where wireless connection does cut out for no apparent reason, but then I discovered that I have to switch the printer on first before the modem and computer. Since then I've had no problems. If your MX300 is not wireless, then you have to start all over again. Switch everything off. check the cables are correctly connected in the right sockets. This done reinstall the software and try again. To scan something, you first try and see if the MX300 all in one printer is in the Printer folder by clicking on Start, Control Panel, Device and Printers (Windows 7), then check if there are icons or picture of a printer with the actual name under it, e.g. MX300 (usually there are two printers, one has a green check mark). Normally Canon provides a picture of the actual printer, whereas the other picture of Canon (the one that says Canon ........ series printer XPS), you ignore this one unless you know what you're fiddling with. Right, now double clicking on the one with the actual Canon printer picture, it opens all what you need here, Print Management, Image Scan, Printer Status and Ink Information, Support, On Screen Manual. Etc. With the printer already switched on, double click on 'Image Scan' and follow the on-screen instructions. If there is an 'Auto' button, click that and see if you get the printer to scan. Later you will also learn the rest of the Printer's functions. Good luck.

Here is the full instructions concerning the MX300 all in one printer from my Canon, in an effort to help you as quick as possible.

There is a program that is installed with the printer called MP Navigator that will assist with the scanning process. To scan using MP Navigator, please follow these steps:

    1. Start MP Navigator EX by going to your START MENU, then ALL PROGRAMS, then CANON UTILITIES, then CANON MP NAVIGATOR EX (folder), then CANON MP NAVIGATOR EX (application). There may also be an MP Navigator icon on your computer desktop; if so, you can just double-click on that to open the application.

    2. When MP Navigator opens, click on the SCAN/IMPORT option at the top left of the window, then click the PHOTOS/DOCUMENTS (PLATEN) option.

    3. Place the document you want to scan on the platen glass, then select your Document Type (either Color or Black and White Photo or Document).

3-1. Please note: When you select Magazine(Color), the Descreen function will be enabled and scanning takes longer than usual. To disable the Descreen function, deselect the Descreen checkbox in the Scan Settings dialog box.

3-2. Select Text (OCR) to extract the text in the image and convert to editable text data using MP Navigator EX. This setting is not available when the Compress scanned images when transferring checkbox is selected on the General tab of the Preferences dialog box.

3-3. Color scanning is not available for Text (OCR). To scan in color, use OCR in One-click and scan with Color Mode set to Color.

    4. Click SPECIFY... to modify the document size and resolution as required, then click OK. By default, the document size selected is 'Auto Detect', and the Resolution selected is '300 dpi'. Both of these settings are usually satisfactory if you want to scan a document in as-is. If you need to specify a higher resolution scan or specific document size, please click on the 'SPECIFY' button.

    5. Click the green SCAN button on the screen. Scanning starts. When scanning is completed, the Scan Complete dialog box opens.

    6. Select SCAN or EXIT. You will select 'Scan' to scan the next document if there is one, or select 'Exit' to end scanning.

    7. The scanned images appear in the Thumbnail window. Please put a checkmark under the images you want to save.

    8. Save the scanned images by either selecting the 'SAVE' or 'SAVE AS PDF' option on the bottom left-hand corner of the window.

8-1. Selecting the 'SAVE' option will give you the choice of saving a file in an image format such as JPEG, BMP, or TIFF.

8-2. Selecting the 'SAVE AS PDF' option will save your file in a PDF format. This is good for saving documents, letters, etc.

    9. Once you make a selection in Step 8 above, a window will appear giving you additional options for the file you are trying to save.

9-1. The 'SAVE IN' section will show you where the document is going to be saved. By default, the files are saved in the Pictures folder in a folder labeled 'MP Navigator EX'. If you would like to specify a different location to save the files to, please click on the 'BROWSE..' button and select the location where you want to save the file, the press the 'OK' button to return to the save window.

9-2. The 'FILE NAME' section will let you name the file you are saving. By default, the file name will be 'IMG'; you can delete that out and name the file whatever you like.

9-3. The 'SAVE AS TYPE' section will allow you to choose the file output type. If you selected an image file, you will have the option of JPEG/EXIF, BMP or TIFF; if you selected the 'Save as PDF' option, you will be able to save the file as a single or multi-page PDF file.

9-4. The 'SAVE TO A SUBFOLDER WITH THE CURRENT DATE' option will let you save the file in a subfolder with the current date inside of the folder location you selected in step 9-1 above. If do not want a subfolder created with the current date inside of the folder you selected in step 9-1 above, please uncheck the 'Save to a Subfolder with Current Date' option.

    10. Click the SAVE button. The scanned images will be saved according to the settings you selected above.

    11. Once the file is save, you will be given the option to 'OPEN SAVE LOCATION' or 'CLOSE'. I would suggest selecting 'Close', and then going directly to the location where you specified the file be saved to. From there, you should be able to double-click on the file to open it.

I hope this information is helpful to you. Cheers

Have you downloaded or installed the full software for it? If so can you open the program first and initiate the scan from it?

It wont allow me to scan items because one of the ink cartridges is empty. Why do i need ink to scan something . please help?

Inkjet printers basically shutdown when one or the other cartridges are empty. This is an inherent problem with inkjets, but none the less a problem.Try setting the printer to black and white printing only to attempt to bypass this problem. Depending on your make and model, this may help. Otherwise you may need to purchase the cartridge in order to get it to work. Sorry.

Make sure that the printer is connected to your computer and you have the home center software installed on your system. Try to install the latest version of Printer software from www.kodak.com/go/downloads on your computer. then open the kodak home center software and click on scan pictures. Adjust the settings and you are ready to go. download the user manual from www.kodak.com/go/manuals.

No duplex scanning

Try going to the hp solution center
Then settings, scan settings, scan preferences (third from top), under the automatic tab, bottom of list is “Scan both sides of the original when using duplex feeder”
I’m using version 70.0.128.000 of the HP Solution Center if that helps.

I told my brother once to ask HP support about a problem for his laptop, and they proceeded to instruct him how to make the problem worse and royally screw up stuff that was completely unrelated to his problem.
