Question about Building Materials

1 Answer

Garage door opener remotes work OK on OPEN but have short range on CLOSE.

In the last week or so, the garage door remotes work normally of OPEN but only at short range on CLOSE. Replaced batteries on both remotes. No change in this behavior. If it's RF interference, then it would have to be at the CLOSE frequency and not the OPEN frequency .. if there's any difference. Can't imagine what source of interference anyway. So....?

I found the problem: Modern light bulbs such as fluorescent AND LED can generate radio interference. I had installed an LED bulb in the door opener. That was the problem.

SOURCE: garage door remote control signal problem

On the rear of the motor unit just to the left of all those white wires you will find a small LED. Random flashing is normal but if it is flashing rapidly it shows some type of interference. If this isn't happening then the most common thing is a logic board going bad.

SOURCE: Remote Control closes garage door but does not open

It sounds like a case of your keypad losing signal strength enough that it cannot transmit through the closed door. If a new battery doesn't do the job a new keypad will.

SOURCE: We are having intermittent problems with our 2

Greetings LiftMaster Owners:
You are probably getting signal interferences from other devices in the neighborhood or from your home that are on the same frequencies as your remotes and garage door openers. Weather conditions can lock signals and frequencies into a much smaller area concentration causing these interferences. Check you home owner manuals for the grarage door opener and see if there is an adustmen on the garage opener that can strengthen your signals. Good Luck

The key pad will close the garage door but it will not open the garage door.

If the keypad is the only remote unit you have that has short range then it is failing. The lack of signal strength prevents the signal from reaching the receiver when the door is closed. A replacement is the only cure.

Have your neighbor bring over his remote and open or close your door with it. Then hold the smart/learn button in for 6 seconds on your opener. Then see if he can open your door. He shouldn't be able to because that procedure erases the memory in your opener. No remotes should work. You need to get that remote #53778 back and program it and then see if your neighbor can open your door. If he can open your door at any point after you have held that button in for 6 seconds you need to get a new door opener.

If your remaining remote(s) have normal range then it is your keypad that is going bad. When one of the units start loosing range it is common for the door to cut down even further on the signal strength.

My Craftsman remote won't close my garage door

If the remote opens and closes while inside the garage but not outside , there are a few things it could be. Assuming it was working fine before..
1. weak battery in remote.
2. remote itself could be bad. (unless you have more than 1 remote acting the same)
3. Logic board in opener is going bad causing limited range. Is the wire that hangs down from the opener straightened out? That is your remote antenna. Some people have coiled or even cut it off..reducing range.
4. Less likely but this can happen- interference from another electronic device, wireless routers, cell phone, new appliances etc.. can reduce remote range. Any new electronics recently purchased?

I have problem, with my door garage. it desn't

IF THE DOOR OPENS WITH YOUR REMOTE BUT DOESN'T CLOSE (AND WORKS NORMALLY FROM THE WALL BUTTON) THE PROBLEM IS IN THE SAFETY EYES - CHECK TO SEE THAT BOTH LED'S ARE LIT.

IF NOT CHECK WIRING POLARITY - CHECK FOR BROKEN WIRES - CHECK FOR ALIGNMENT AGAIN.

The garage door works when it wants to.

You have a problem with the safety eyes. Make sure a light is on on both eyes. If not, realign until both lights come on.
