Having trouble under standing rms with speakers. Some speakers rms is per speaker and other are for both speakers.I am looking for soundstream speakers that would be 150 rms per speaker. Thanks

rms is a method of measuring power (wattage) delivered from an amp to a speaker. In almost every case, wattage capacity of speakers is quoted PER SPEAKER. Likewise wattage output is quoted per amp output channel. Assuming a you plan on a single speaker on each output channel of your amp, you should be in good shape if your speaker wattage capacity equals or exceeds your amp's output rating. I've never seen speakers rated as wattage per pair.

(rms is the dominant way of measuring average watts of an ac sine wave signal)

What is the wattage and rms on the stock speakers of a 2000 malibu?

very low wattage in most factory installed speakers most are in the 12 to 35 watt range @16olms. An upgrade would be 25 for fronts and 50 watt for rears as most recievers are also real low rms outputs. Unless you have a premium stereo system installed then you could have the 25 and 50's already installed along with a 100 sub. But I would venture to say you have not in a 2000 Malibu these upgrades were

What speakers are beneficial with this receiver? I want to have surround sound from my TV and also from my other components - CDs and old record player.

Well to get the full effect of 5.1 surround you will need 2 front speakers, 1 subwoofer, and 2 rear speakers. Personally I used 2 tower speakers, 2 rear speakers and a subwoofer. Match the speakers with the RMS wattage of your Receiver. (100x5) or roughly 50 watts per speaker. Yamaha, KLH, Philips are pretty good speakers.

Yes you can use the speaker output in conjuction with the rca pre-outs...but depending on the wattage of the amp, there may be a big difference between the loudness of the front speakers over the rear speakers. If you have a 4 channel amp you can put the rear speakers on the amp also and lower the input gain for the rear speaker. Or if you have a 2 channel amp, you could use a passive crossover to filter out some of the bass to the rear speakers since they are smaller, this would help prevent over-driving them...as it is normally too much bass that distorts and blows a speaker. I'm not sure what you are asking about the hi-rear preouts vs the mid front pre-outs. If you decide to use the amp for the fronts you should be able to connect the amp from the front preouts of the deck. Hope this helps.

speakers are suitable to any amplifier, exept for the rating of it. (wattage) sometimes there are some speakers that are voltage needed. well you can use it as a subwoofer output for your tv for better sound.
just buy a aux splitter for the two amplifier, so that you could use them both.
hope I helped you for this.. have funn.^^
