Why the Dyson dc 41 roller brush will not turn?

Try these steps:
  • Check the button that turns off the roller brush to make sure you didn't press it by accident.
  • Unplug the vacuum and clear pet hair and other debris off the roller brush. It may stop as a safety feature if the roller brush is too restricted.
  • Make sure the belt to the roller brush is placed correctly and not broken.
  • Press the roller brush reset button. It may be located on the side of the vacuum's head, or inside the handle. The switch may need to be replaced if it's defective.
  • The roller brush is disabled while the handle is in the upright position, so tilt the handle backwards while testing the roller brush.
I hope that helps you!

Brush not turnning

The brush roller is driven by a belt installed on the motor shaft. The belt could be broken or off the shaft. The brush roller could be clogged inside the end caps with debris which prevents rotation. To solve the debris problem, it will be necessary to remove the belt from the motor shaft, then note the orientation of the end caps and remove the brush roller. Next, remove one end cap and check for clogging material. Remove the material. Slide the brush roller shaft away from the end of the brush roller to check for clogging material at the opposite end. Remove the material. Slide the brush roller shaft back into position and reinstall the end cap. Reinstall the brush roller in the correct position. Reinstall the belt. Check for proper rotation of the brush roller.

Roller not turning when vaccuming

just had the same exact issue with mine - took everything apart - found that the swivel roller brush wasnt turning. it was not any belt issues or motor issues. took out brush roller - held in my hand by holding just the hand cap still - and tried turning the roller with my other hand. roller would not turn at all but is supposed to with no effort. on some models the end caps pop off but most are one piece and are just discarded and a new roller bought - seems to be $10-$20 for one for most dirt devils and under $10 shipping in north america. you can try something down the side of the roller and end cap like a razor - i did cut lose some crud and it works - but roller still stops on 2 of 4 settings on the rug because of this. i've already ordered a new one.

HV9010P ROLLER BRUSH DOESN'T MOVE

That is probably the belt. Open up the bottom screws and take a look. The cat or dog hair usually gets stuck in the ends of the rollers and stops the belt from effectively pushing the roller. You may find that the belt is still on the drive and the roller. If you do just clean out the roller.

The belt for the maain vaccume broke off and now with the new belt the roller will not work.

It sounds like your roller brush itself might be bad. Try holding the roller brush holding just the end caps with your finger tips, and spinning the roller. Does the roller spin freely? If no, this indicates that your roller brush's bearings have melted together. This is a common problem for Bissell vacuums, as they use cheaper plastic bearing caps. The roller brush is not covered under the warranty either.

When this part goes bad, this causes the belt to break almost immediately. If you tried replacing the belt, and it broke immediately, your roller brush has gone bad.

The brush roller is not rotating on my Kenmore Whispertone. It will pick up on floor surfaces. Help!

Be sure that there are no fibers wound around the roller or lodged in the wheel well of the brush roller. That is usually the cause of a brush roller not rotating. You might need to use scissors to clip the fibers and then pull them from the roller. The fibers might range from human and pet hair to carpet fibers, threads, string, yarn, embroidery floss. They wind around the roller and eventually "tighten up" so that the rotator will not move. I have found that, depending on my current craft project, I may have quilting thread, knitting yarn, embroidery floss, or other such goodies wrapped around the roller. When our daughters were at home we would have long, beautiful blonde hair tangled in the roller. I hope this helps.

Oreck vacuum is smoking and the roller is not turning. vacuum is turning on and inflating well.

Sounds like the roller is jammed up. The motor keeps driving the belt, but for some reason the belt cant drive the roller. The smoke is coming from the belt, Clean the junk out from the roller.

Hair getting stuck in the belt drive area causing beater to skip

Hair, string, tinsel, etc. have always been problems for rollers and belts. You will have to remove the hair. It can often get stuck at the ends of the rollers also and keep the roller from turning. I usually remove the roller and clean it using a screwdriver, knife, etc. to remove the hair. the cleaning can be done while the roller is still on the unit by turning the unit over although this may not offer as much free access to the roller. Of course, removing the roller means removing the belt and if you are not up to this (I don't know how handy you are), I would try to remove the hair with the roller on. If you do this, be careful not to put any nicks in the belt. Good luck!

How do you install the belt on the kirby vacuum?

Step 1:
UNPLUG YOUR KIRBY VACUUM CLEANER. Before you go any further, take your time with this belt change. It's not that difficult, just a little different than most other vacuums. These belts are very easy to find on the internet. kirby-oldstyle1.jpg Step 2:
You should be facing the front of your Kirby vacuum. The height adjustment lever will be on your right. Push the lever all the way down. Lift the light hood with your left hand. Turn theKirby vacuum belt lifter counter-clockwise with your right hand. Unlock the accessory lock. The accessory lock is located under the light hood. Move the lock to the left to disengage it. Remove the front of the vacuum cleaner.
kirby-oldstyle2.jpg kirby-oldstyle2a.jpg Step 3:
Turn the vacuum belt lifter all the way clockwise until the belt drops down. Unlock the roller plate by releasing the two latches on the rear. Pull the roller plate up slightly and then off. kirby-oldstyle3.jpg kirby-oldstyle3a.jpg
Step 4:
Bend one end of the roller bracket just enough to remove the roller. Remove this end of the roller. If you need to replace the roller take it all the way out. Remove any carpet fiber, string, or hair from the roller with a scissor.

kirby-oldstyle4.jpg kirby-oldstyle4a.jpg Step 5:
After you have removed the old belt, slide the new one back on the middle of the roller. If you're Kirby vacuum cleaner has a belt indicator light, the roller will have a magnet built onto one end of it. It's very important to install to install a roller with a magnet on the same side as the indicator light. The roller actually will only fit into the roller plate one way.
kirby-oldstyle4.jpg Step 6:
Place the roller back in the roller bracket. Place the roller bracket back and lock it into place with the 2 latches. Rotate the vacuum cleaner belt lifter counter-clockwise. You should feel the the belt catch. Look inside to make sure the belt is being stretched onto the vacuum belt lifter. Reassemble the machine. After you have reassembled your Kirby, turn the belt lifter cockwise, releasing the vacuum belt onto the vacuum motor shaft. kirby-oldstyle2.jpg
