I have exactly the same problem, the colour cartridges print fine however there is nothing coming from the black cartridge. This is the second cartridge I have tried to get to work with no success. I have tried the cleaning and deep cleaning on several occasions but have had no success.

Please can someone offer a solution to this problem, otherwise my son will be buying me a new printer for Christmas and that does not excite me too much!

Hi, I have the same problem. I was told by Canon to use alcohol and clean the head. This is a new printer! There's dry ink behind the printer door. I've wasted too much ink on this thing. Good thing I'm getting ink for cheap.

It seems your printer needs servicing because the problem is mechanical

CANON PIXMA IP2000 STOPPED PRINTING YELLOW A FEW MONTHS AGO. WE'VE CHANGED INK CARTRIDGES MANY TIMES, BUT CAN'T GET YELLOW TO PRINT. HOW DO WE REMOVE THE PRINTHEAD SO WE CAN TRY TO FLUSH IT OUT WITH HOT...

OK, since nobody answered my plea for help, I merely opened the Canon monster and yanked out the printhead after lifting up the level. (WHAT was so hard about that, that nobody could explain it here?!)
Cleaned printhead using warm water & ice-cube tray & paper towes. Just let it soak all the excess ink out for a while, then allowed it to dry.
Changed cartridges, put new color cartridge in...
THE DAMNED THING STILL WON'T PRINT YELLOW (altho it will print a faint hint of yellow). WHY IS IT DOING THIS? Why is Canon making this a common problem in the first place, rather than producing a product that is reliable and easy to maintain?

My MP830 leaves white horizontal bands when printing black & white documents. Color printing seems fine. Pattern 'F' is missing on the print alignment page.

You need to continually clean and deep clean and realign the black until the results are acceptable. Try manual alignment if the auto does not work. Also clean around the exit hole of the black ink cartidge with a cotton bud and isoproyl alcohol.

Hi, My printer is not printing. I have a new ink cartidge (color and black) in it. I can hear it typing but nothing appears on the paper. What shall I do?

If deep cleaning at least twice doesn't help, you may need a new printhead. QY6-0052-000, there is also a firmware upgrade that a shop can do that helps the cleaning process. The printhead will be around $50.00.

Canon Pixma iP2000

try cleaning the print head as follows, otherwise a new print head.
OK, Canon will hate me for posting this.

1. Remove ink cartridges
2. Remove print head
3. go to sink or tub (stainless steel, not plastic type), pick up a roll of paper towel on the way.
4. Fold several layers of paper towel and place on flat surface.
5. Run hot water until HOT!
6. Turn hot water back to a dribble.
7. Run the dribbling hot water through print head, be careful not to wet the gold contacts.
8.When water running through print head is clear, place print head on paper towel.
9. Repeat number 7 and 8 until no colour shows on paper towel.
10. Gently DAB print head (DO NOT WIPE) inside and out with dry paper towel until dry.
11. I normally replace print head after drying, but you may wish to let it air dry overnight.
12. Replace print head in printer and install cartridges
13. Start printing.

I do this to all 4 of my Canon printers every 6 months or so.

If any colour fails to print after this process it means your print head probably needs replacing.
