Question about Vacuums

1 Answer

Drum needs push to get started and will then turn. It doesn't matter what load is in the drum.

Have checked the belt and there is no obvious sign of slack or deterioration. Do these models have starter capacitors?

There will be a Starter Capacitor. Possibly strapped to the Motor.

SOURCE: The belt keeps slipping off so the drum won't turn

replace the bel, is worn, put a new one. Of course before try to adjust the tension of belt, for moving a little the motor.
God bless you

SOURCE: change drum belt on a 38AW tumble drier

A dryer in the vacuum area? I will give some advice here:
Google the model number with "how to replace belt" and if lucky you will find a You Tube video that shows what you want to know.

I did this on more than one dryer I have owned and it may take some dismantling of the dryer that the average person cannot do, consider at least talking to a repair shop to see what it costs to be done right the first time and in your home.

Hi,

You may have a bad brush roll,or the base itself has a problem and isn't letting the brush roll sit straight so it can be in alignment.

The drum is not turning when I the vacuum is on. I have good suction. What should I do?

by drum I take it you mean the beater bar on the bottom? I would check the belt and probably replace it. remove the screws holding the very bottom of the vacuum on and remove the access plate / cover. you should see the belt or whats left of it.

I have a dirt devil featherlite plus and all of the sudden it started pushing hard and smells hot. I cleaned the roller, changed the bag, checked the belt. The belt is a little wore, but not bad.

If it is pushing hard then you still have a belt problem. It may not be broken but the belt is stretched out too long and will not turn the roller brush fast enough to make it push easy.

Bissell 6579-2 bagless vacuum. Beater bar siezed up. motor turns. took bar out, no movement from either end cap on bar.

1. Uing the appropriate sized drift punch, tap out the steel axle rod which passes through the beater drum.
2. Each end cap houses a 608ZZ ball brg.
3. Check each brg for freedom of smooth rotation. Replace both if either is seized.
4. Replace with either 608ZZ (dbl shielded) or 608 2RS (dbl sealed) brgs.
5. Inspect and be prepared to replace the drive belt since it may have been damaged in the seizure event.

Brush won't turn

The belt may look ok, but if it is more then a few months old, then it has stretched to where it won't turn under load, just slips. If it is very tight feeling, then check down where the pulleys are, the V belt has a black roll that maybe jammed and not pushing against the V belt when the handle is in the down position.

Problem putting on flat drive belt on Hover Vaccun cleaner model # U6434-900. Also how do I get the belt on? Do you have tool to help put the belt on.

the best way is to use an flat blade screwdriver. Attach to motor first than but screwblade into belt holding it aginst the brush holder drum and roll the brush forward inching the rubber belt onto the spendle that drives the belt
