Not to find any online IPL that I can access from here in the USA so I have no idea of how the drive belt is routed.

If it has an electric PTO clutch then you need to remove it so you can drop the engine pulley down to get belt off and on as the upper belt retainers will prevent you doing so if not done. If just a double stack pulley you will probably still need remove the retaining bolt so you drop the pulley as above.

If you can find the model number sticker on the back of the tractor, somewhere around or under the seat (it will be formatted like this 123456x7y) then go to www.murray.com ,put in your model number it should come up and you can download and print and/or save it. If you can't find the model number, there isn't much else available for help.

Even though the routing is correct, have you checked that every spindle and idler pulley turns freely? These bearings can freeze up or bind because debris builds up in them. Also, if the bushings on the idler pulleys can wear, causing them to misalign. Keep checking. Also - is the belt snapping clean, or do you see a burnt, worn spot?

Testimonial: "Thank you for your help. The belt is snapping clean. You are correct in your assessment to what the problem might be. We checked all the above and did not correct problem. We put three washers on top of small idler pulley to bring it down and better align routing. Bought heavier belt at auto parts. Believe the bolt head was touching belt where it routed throught to larger idler pulley."

Removing clutch cone from cox stockman ride on mower

Old question, but maybe this will help others:
Here is the answer for all Cox Stockman machines fitted with a single large bolt through clutch cone. Below it you'll find a VERY GOOD REASON WHY YOU SHOULD NOT DO IT!!!

1. Disconnect the negative (-) lead from the battery.
2. Loosen the four bolts that secure the engine and slide engine backwards.
3. Remove the 'R Clip' on the link rod at the front of the clutch carrier, then disconnect the link rod.
4. Loosen all four grub screws on the drive plates and slide them as far out as you can.
5. Raise the rear of the machine and secure with axle stands or some other method that will leave you with a SAFE WORKPLACE!
6. Remove the 9/16" locknut on the clutch pivot bolt (under the rear of the machine), then unscrew the pivot bolt. Do not try to drive it out with a punch, as it is screwed into the adjusting plate.
7. When bolt is removed, slide the rear of the carrier across to one side and the front of the carrier to the other side ( to clear the bracket at the front of the carrier) and work the whole assembly forward enough to clear the rear chassis rail. Then drop it down and remove the assembly from the machine.

To replace the cone, lock the large bolt head into a vice, then use a 2 or three pronged lock bar to unscrew the pulley from the bottom of the bolt. Then, fit a new cone onto the bolt and reverse teh entire process.

Now, here's why you should NOT DO THIS AT HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you don't read this part, I absolutely guarantee that it will end up costing you far more money than if you'd sent the machine to a Cox Service agent ( I am one).

About the only thing on any Cox machine that requires specialist knowledge and tooling to correctly repair, is the drive cone clutch system. Removing and replacing the drive cone itself is the easiest part of the process and I have seen it done by plenty of people. I've also spent plenty of time then fitting another new cone to their machine, because the one they put on is now stuffed. The drive cone is just one part of an assembly and if the entire job is not done correctly the FIRST TIME, the new cone can be destroyed in a very short time. And the only way to do the entire job correctly is to have the special tools and knowledge. No if's, no but's and no maybe's!

Trying to change the drive belt on a GTX 2446 Troy Bilt garden lawn mower rider can't get the pulley upper plate of the motor

You must remove the electric PTO clutch in order to remove the motion drive belt. Also it probably require you remove the bolts holding transmission if your going and secondary drive so can it off and on.

2010 electra glide ultra classic, squeaking noise from primary side only when riding. Could clutch or, belt be the problem. Clutch engages smoothly with no acceleration problems. Especially noticeable on...

You need to determine whether the squeaking is being made by the engine, the primary, the drive, or the frame. While riding, pull in the clutch, does the squeaking stop or change in any manner? Is the noise there when the engine is running but standing still? Pull the clutch lever in and release, does the squeak change or stop.

If I had to say what I think it is, I'd say it's probably the rear drive belt is not tracking correctly due to the alignment of the rear wheel. Look at the rear wheel adjusters. They should be exactly the same on either side of the swingarm. Also, the belt must be tight. If not, a loose belt will make a squeaking noise.

Good Luck

Mower deck clutch cable removal (model 917.28722). Detail provided in manual does not seem to match product. Need to remove this in order to remove deck and replace belt. Belt has squealed since new.

You should not need to remove the deck or the clutch cable just to change the belt.

  • ensure mower clutch lever is in the off position
  • lift the front of the tractor approx 24 or more inches.
  • lower the mower deck as far as it will go
  • locate & remove the cotter pin from the right (discharge) side mower lift arm where it attaches to the rear of the mower
  • release the lift arm from the mower deck to allow it to drop (it will hang from the other 3 points)
You should now have plenty of clearance to change the belt. Remove the belt from the engine pulley first and replace the new belt on the engine pulley last that will make it easier to change the belt.

If this is helpful please vote yes, Thank You!!

You can carefully bend back the guides on frame, push in the clutch pedel and secure it with a piece of rope or a bungee cord. (this allows slack in the belt to remove it.
If you wanted to loosen the motor which is time comsuming, you would need an impact wrench to loosen bolt on pto
