Im trying to hook up my computer to my plasma tv. I have the correct vga to hdmi adaptor, with a sound jack and usb for power. into the adaptor, i have an hdmi cord running to the tv. However on the tv i get the "no signal" box. I tested the set up on an led tv and worked immediately. I also tried turning the tv and computer off and on while it was all hooked up. I do not have an option on the tv to change resolution or anything like that, the closest thing i have is pic size, but i think its only exactly that. Its a large sanyo plasma tv and a desktop pc running windows 7

SOURCE: ilo 42" plasma tv

Go the the settings on the cable box. look for output resolution, then change it to 1080i and 720p. now turn the box off and back on your tv will now display the input of wither 1080i or 720p depending on the hd channel your watching.

SOURCE: problem using Audio 3 sound inputs for HDMI video

Normally this problem is simply a matter of selecting the correct default audio playback device in the Windows control panel (sound option).
Check the Playback tab and set the default device to either DVI or HDMI.

Now i assume you have connected the Computer using a VGA cable ( 15 D pin connector )bobhifi_41.jpgbecause if you had used an HDMI cable the sound would have come by default. The VGA cable only carries analogue Video signals. So you will have to get 3.5 mm phono to 2 RCA cable to connect the sound out of the PC to the TV's audio in socket ( next to the VGA socket labeled audio IN )

What cables do I need? I used a vga to vga cable and received a picture on the tv but no sound.

if you are trying to hook your computer to your tv you need an hdmi cable if your tv or computre has no hdmi port than you need to use a 1/4 to 1/4 in cable running from your headphone jack on the computer to a 1/4 input on your tv as the vga cable you are using does not carry audio.

You need a seperate speaker system when your tv is on vga there is no option to recieve a sound input. In fact if you hook your cables for sound back up to the tv you will probably find that there is sound but on a diffrent input channel. The other option is to use a diffrent type of connection like hdmi if your computer and tv support it which DOES support audio and vido throught the TV.

It sounds like you are using the wrong audio input jack, by chance are you using the audio cable with RED and WHITE RCA to mini stereo plug ?
If you look at the VGA port on the the TV, you will see a small mini phone jack (PC audio) close by, that will be for the sound input when TV is in PC mode.
Please verify for me.

I wANT TO CONNET MY LAPTOP TO MY CRT TV

What you need:
This is hard to define initially as there are so many ways to achieve this depending on what type of television you have and what video outputs your computer offers. You may also find that you only want to attach the stereo, and leave the TV disconnected, or vice versa.

.HDMI - High Definition Multimedia Interface: Ideally we will all have an HDMI connection on both our television and video card, but most likely don’t have it on either. Many new LCD screen and Plasma displays offer this mother of connections. They are also becoming a little more popular on Video cards. This will give you the highest quality signal. This format can also carry audio. This is very easy to connect from one device to another. It offers the same video quality as a DVI.

here are some tips that will help
Computer has HDMI and TV has HDMI – Use HDMI
Computer has DVI and TV has DVI – Use DVI
Computer has DVI and TV has VGA – Use VGA + Adaptor
Computer has VGA and TV has VGA – Use VGA
Computer has S-Video and TV has S-Video – Use S-Video
Computer has RCA and TV has RCA – Use RCA
Computer has S-Video and TV has RCA – Use RCA with adaptor
Computer has RCA and TV has S-Video – Use RCA with adaptor

From the looks of the TV manual you have everything right, so it's very odd you're running into this problem.

Have you tried swapping through the sources? I find with one of the TVs we have on display at work that any time I'm having some troubles with it I will change the source from PC to something else, then back to PC.

If that doesn't work then I'd suggest you try reseting the sound settings back to factory default. The instructions are on page 45 of the TV manual. From the TV menu select "Sound", then "Sound Reset", then either "Reset All" or "Reset Sound Mode". I would suggest reseting all.

Last option would be to try using the headphone jack in the side of the TV, though this is a last resort kind of thing since you would have to unplug it every time you wanted to use the cable box.

Hope this helps :)
