Question about Lenovo ThinkPad R61 PC Notebook

1 Answer

My computer has a message.. Disk read error ocurred. I don't know what it means?? My dog knocked my laptop off the table and it keeps coming up with this message. I've tried everything!

It has been working great!1 Until the dog bumped into the table it was on. I did the Ctrl + ALT+Del a dozen times and even hit The Blue ThinkPad button. I tried all three options but always went back to same message.

Unfortunately, the most likely answer is that your hard drive is failing (has failed).

If you're under warranty, you'll need to contact Lenovo.

Try holding the power button down for ten seconds, then try turning it back on. There may be an issue with it going into sleep mode.

Toshiba satellite A135 At the power on disk read error comes on & says press ctrl+alt+del to restart, but after restarting, the same reading comes on!

Disk read error is, most likely, a bad hard drive. Seeing this message means that the operating system (Windows) didn't even get a chance to load before running aground. This model uses 2.5" SATA drives and 80G is the smallest size ever sold. You can probably get a replacement drive (new or used) locally or thru eBay or Amazon, and they should be pretty cheap (new ones should run for about 20 cents to 25 cents per gig. That'd be your best bet.

Hi. Every time I turn my Toshiba Satellite Laptop on (A305-S6905) it turns on normal then it goes to this black screen and says "A disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart." I...

The disk read error message appears when the motherboard can't read what is in the hard disk and use it to launch the Windows boot process.
It means that the hard disk is dead and everything on it is lost, including the recovery partition that new laptops use instead of the recovery disks. You will have to replace the hard disk (a quite complicated job that only an experienced person should do) then order a recovery disk from here
and use it to reinstall Windows.

When i start up my note book it just comes up no bootable device insert boot disk and then press any key.? there is no disk slot to put a disk in.?

Hi there!
This error messages means that you don't have any functioning bootable device. Since you don't have a disc drive, then it is possible that your harddrive crashed or needs to be replace. What you can do is to check in the BIOS if the harddrive is detected or not. If it is, then you just have to reinstall the operating system of your computer. If not, you may have to replace it.

Best regards!

When i cut on the computer it reads S.M.A.R.T. Hard Drive Detects Error. Please consider back up drive. Press ESC to continue

SMART monitoring is a feature of some motherboards that keeps watch of several hard drive parameters. If any of these go outside of a preset range you'll get that message at startup. While this doesn't mean a hard drive failure is imminent, you should follow the advice and back up any data you don't want to lose before it's too late. It's a good habit to back up important files like digital pictures that may be impossible to replace, but far too few people do it.

Disc Unreadable

simple format compatability issue.
you either don,t have the software on your computer.
Or the disks are unfinished or unfinalised, which means that there are no table-of-contents ( directory structure ) for windows to be able to understand the disks format.
Mike @ Compurepair.
Also the drive ( CD/DVD Rom ) may not be compatable with these disks. check your software read/write program, to see if the disks are supported.
