Why does my Ryobi 2200 watt generator surge at low RPM's

The engine is not getting enough fuel. Try choking it some and see if this helps. If it does, then check the fuel filters. If you still have problems, then you will need to clean the carburetor or open the main jet if it is adjustable. Modern small engines are se to run as lean as possible to keep pollution down. This is much worse on small engines shipped to California. If the carburetor and filter are clean and you still have the problem, take the carburetor to lawn mower shop and see if they will replace the main jet with one a little larger.

Let me know if this gets you going. Robert

98 saturn with trottle wide open engines revs up then down

Sound like you have a bad TPS. Also make sure your throttle body is nice and clean, that will contribute to the problem.

Engine speed surges

Surging engines in lawn mowers are usually related to a lean fuel/air mixture. With today's environmental concerns, the carburetors on these engines are set with a very lean mixture (to reduce air pollution). Furthermore, they usually put limiter caps on the carburetors where you cannot easily adjust the mix to get the engine to run better.

If there are adjustment screws on the carburetor, try turning the high speed adjustment screw a bit counter-clockwise (if the limiter cap will allow it). This will enrich the fuel/air mix a bit and might help the engine run a bit better.

Have a fuel pressure test done to determine if proper pressure is there. At very least change fuel filter.

Silver series 6.5 hp surging

  1. Carburetor is dirty.
  2. Air leak in carburetor or intake manifold (e.g., bad O-ring, gasket, primer).
  3. Carburetor is improperly adjusted
These are some of the more typical reasons that can cause a small engine to surge.

Engine Surges and Lo trac light comes on then goes

1.Intake air vacuum leak. Check all hoses and bolts for tightness. With the engine running, wiggle all hoses around and listen for a hiss. 2. Change fuel filter, check fuel pressure. 3. Faulty idle control system/sensor.
