Hey there. first timer hook in up a payne furnace (no ac) to a analog thermostat (no c receptacle) using a standard 14-3 wire. 3 amp fuse blows every time before fan even kicks on. furnace control panel shows G-Comm(24v)-W-Y-R. thermostat shows G-W-Y-B-R-RC-O. Hook up r to r, w to w, leave the rest alone for now until someone can see what you have done. If the furnace has a sparker or hot surface ignitor, set the heat anticipator for .8 amps. not .4 or less.

Our Honeywell st400c programmer went blank and when we changed the 3 amp fuse it just kept blowing all the other fuses we put in any ideas as to what may be the problem? The system is o nly 13 months old

You have a short some where. Look for a nick on the thermostat wire. And it could be anywhere. at the furnace or Ac. Take all of the wires off of the thermostat and try it. if it blows the stat is ok now take one wire off at a time from the terminal strip on the furnace and try the fuse each time. If you can get your hands on a little popper and put it in place of the fuse it is a mini circuit breaker 3 or 5 amp. Saves on fuses It will be a matter of tracing out which wire hooked up blows the fuse or popper. and then what is being energized a contactor, relay, gas valve etc....It takes some time

How do you hook up the thermostat to a Central Electric feh-017ha-04 furnace? Also, where do the A/C wires hook up to the furnace?

The standard color code for the HVAC is as follows....
Red=Hot or 24v
White=Heat
Green=Fan
Yellow=A/C
White 1=secondary heat.
Blue=Spare
Orange=Heat Pump
C=Common
The thermostat has the terminals marked R,Rh,W,G,Y.
The furnace should have a terminal strip with similar markings.
If you only have 1 control transformer this will be easy.
Hook the wires up using the colors I have listed. If you don't have the same color wires go with whats close to them....such as use Orange for Red etc. It really doesn't matter as long as they are landed on the same terminals on the thermostat and furnace. Two wires running to A.C unit outside put one on Y the other on C. If you need any more help let me know!

I installed a Honeywell TH5220d 1029 thermostat on a American Standard AC/Heat pump and the install and setup went fine. It cooles for about and hour and quit. I found the 5 amp fuse at the furnace...

Red wire to R on thermostat red on furnace and red on heat pump Same with white except w1 on thermostat. Blue to common on thermostat common of furnace (probably brown but will be marked) and blue to common on heat pump. yellow to Y on thermostat and straight to heat pump. Orange to O on thermostat and straight to heat pump. If wired correctly with no shorts fuse problem should be solved. commonly people leave enough wire exposed inside the t-stat for wires to short together. This will blow the fuse. Hope this helps. I understand the frustration.

Dometic air & analog thermostat control kit

Had one doing similar recently, and after a thunder & lightning storm. Nothing worked, but kept blowing 2 amp fuse in thermostat, when anything tried, heat or cool. Pulled plastic control box down from inside upper unit (AC) made sure breaker was off, took of plastic cover and smelled inside, and could smell burnt plastic smell. Replaced, control box, that got fan only working. Tried another thermostat , everything worked as it should. Turns out the lightning, or power surge, or whatever, shorted out the thermostat, and control box at same time.

Analog thermo.stat control kit

Have you tried removing the RH wire connected to the thermostat and try it ? This might rule out furnace as short in system. If it does the same, put RH- (heat) back on and try removing RC-(cool) , if it doesn't pop the fuse, you may have isolated the problem.?

Goodman Furnace/AC unit not working 3a fuse blows even after replacement. once thermostat is turned on and clicks to start ac unit the fuse blows

3 amp is standard.the fuse is blowing to protect the transformer.It is telling you that there is a short in the low voltage wiring.Goodman also had an issue with the coil shorting on the contactor.To prevent damage.....i'd call a pro.It should be a fairly simple repair.

Goodman GMS90703BXA Heater/AC - 3 Amps Fuse blows

This fuse is used on the low voltage side of the furnace. All 24 volt controls operate thru it. You may have a short in your thermostst, thermostat wire or even a bad transformer. After replacing the fuse, inspect the wiring in the cabinet as well as the wire heading toward the thermostat for damage. If you find none, check the thermostat for loose wires or contacts. If all else fails, jump out R and W with a small jumper temporarly at the furnace and see if the unit runs. You will have to tape the door switch closed to run it with the panel off. Remember, this will keep the furnace running 100% of the time until you disconnect the jumpers. Not a solution, just a test! If it runs flawless, you have a bad thermostat or wire. Diagnosing a transformer is for a technician.
