Does your chair turn off automatically in about 10 minutes. Sometimes customers make the request to the tech to set the chair to never turn off because it is an inconvenience to have to turn it back on. As you have experienced, its a much greater inconvenience to have a dead battery. There are also longer settings up to 1 hr. The batteries may be fine, you are just running them down because the chair is on when not in use. If this is the case, you need to contact a tech who has a programmer that can change this setting. I had one customer that had a similar issue as yours but also had performance issues. Riding on a flat surface the chair would do fine, but when he would start to go up an incline, the battery level would start to drop as the motor would torque. I found that he had a bare wire rubbing against the frame and it would not affect the performance until it required more power from the batteries. Look at all the wiring if you are able and see if it is intact. The worst case may be that you have a bad wire that has a break in it and will do the same thing as the bare wire scenario. One more thing you can look at is the battery connections. If they are loose, you will see alot of problems. Bad charge, low performance, wont climb inclines. Everything has to be tight and in good condition to get the best performance. Check all connectors. I have seen melted connectors do the same thing. If you have any melted components, get the unit serviced. You don't want a fire under your seat.

Something in the wiring could be draining your battery's when chair is not being used, try unhooking a battery cable if your able to and see if your batterys are lasting longer if they are then obvious something draining your battery,if you have a gauge check it at night when your finish using your chair, then check it the next day when your ready to use it and see if the gauge is at the same reading.just a thought, hope it helps,if you can't take off the cable or aren't sure then don't do it I don't want you to get hurt.

Tip

Charging your power chair or scooter the correct way can make them last

Whenever you need to charge your power chair or scooter get into the habit of charging overnight. The battery level indicator lights will tell you if your chair or scooter needs charging. Whenever the lights are down into the yellow and especially if they are in the red. If you have the off-board charger, plug the charger into the charger port in the front of your joystick and then plug the charger into the wall socket or turn the on/off switch on and let it charge overnight. When you get up in the morning the charger should have a red light(power) and a green light illuminated (indicating fully charged) Always turn the charger off or unplug it from the wall socket before you unplug it from the chair or scooter. Never have the power on to the charger when you plug or unplug it from your chair or scooter. Whenever you get new batteries always give your batteries a full charge before use and then if you use the chair daily charge it every night. If you do not use your chair or scooter daily charge it at least once a week. Never leave the charger plugged in and on for more than 24 hours. Your batteries should last you 3-4 years if you charge them correctly.

Joe See my tips on charging batteries No you don't have to leave the chair on when charging. Charge overnite after using it during the day. Always have the charger off when plugging it into the chair and unplugging from the chair. The charger you have doesn't have an on/off switch so get a power strip with the on/off switch, plug that into the wall and plug your charger into the strip use the switch on the strip to turn the charger on and off this will save you having to plug and unplug the charger rom the wall. Always store or put the chair up fully charged. If you don't use the cair daily charge at least once a week. It takes 9-10 chargings to get the batteries operating at 100% so use the chair and charge overnight while you sleep Never leave the charger on the chair more than 12 hours Hope this helps you

I bought an MPV5 used. Batteries won't charge. Charger light is green after 24 hours...slight power surge then dies. The seller said it hadn't been plugged in for a long time. I also noticed the batteries...

Lets solve this, one question at a time ....
First your batteries are not charging,This may be because of it siting for too long without a charge. The batteries may be so dead that your charger cannot reconize them. dont losse hope there are ways to check your batteries and charger with out spending alot of money on a tech coming over.
1) Unplug and remove your batteries from the chair
2) Find your self a charge that trickle charge
(Note: If you have a batterie charger ,trickle charge is the lowest set charge)
3) Trickle charge each batterie to about 50%
4) Install batteries back on to chair
5) Plug in chair charger
The chairs charger should come on ,and that right there tells you that you have a good charger!
The batteries that came with this chair are not bad and are considered ok to use .These type of batteries are what you call maintenance batteries ,which your always having to check if the leaking or need water. The gell type batteries are what they call non-maintenance.That you dont have to always look after but are more money.Thats why they recommend the gells so that the user doesn't have to work on there chair.

I hope that was helpful ,Happy Riding

My battery runs out shortly 1/4 of a mile at most

papa you don't give alot of information to try to guess what is wrong. How old are the batteries? If 2 years or older probably time for new ones. Is the charger working correctly? Does the yellow light turn green after charging overnite. If not it could be a bad charger. Of course it could be both time for new batteries and a new charger My best guess is that you need new batteries. If Medicare paid for your chair then they will pay for most of the cost of new batteries. Youe chair uses 2 U1 batteries and if there is a battery warehouse or store in your area they should have the batteries also check for an Interstate store that can get you the batteries. Hope this helps

The small batteries (17 Amp hour I believe) are notorious for lasting a year and often much less. I consistently replace the original OEM batteries supplied with this chair at the 6 month point. The manufacturer warrants these sealed gel lead acid batteries for only 6 months. Try the AGM (advanced glass mat ) batteries and you should get better life out of them. They might be more expensive at retail pricing but your insurance should pay for the better batteries in my experience. Make sure the charger replaced under warranty is the correct amperage for these small batteries otherwise the output could burn the battery plates.

My chair is not charging. We are getting 34 volts

Hi. A voltage of 34 volts is way to high. Most chargers are limited to about 28.5 volts. You will quickly dry out your batteries at 34 volts. I would say your charger is very faulty.
You have probably already destroyed your batteries at that charge rate.
Are the batteries new or a couple of years old.
I serviced a machine last year, that, according to the owner, had been through 6 sets of batteries in 4 years. His charger had the same problem as yours.
Good luck. Neil.

Hello, The green battery lights seem to go out rather quickly, and then the speed LED's flash on/off and the chair slows way down. After recharging it fully last night, the speed lights started flashing...

It sounds like a battery problem more than anything. If it were a fuse, the chair would not move at all. When batteries are stored, they need to be kept charged by charging every couple of week or so (ideally). There may be other problems causing this, such as a short somewhere or a problem with one of the motors/brakes/electronic componets draining the batteries, but I feel this is unlikely given what you have described. I would have the batteries checked at a dealer with a proper battery tester. Preferably have the charger checked at the same time. We use a specific battery/charger tester in our shop that is connected to a computer and will give a graph of the battery/charger condition. This way there is no arguments as to whether the batteries or charger is faulty. Hope this has helped.

Battery doesn't charge

When you connect the charger, if the light goes to red to green within a few minutes and the battery power does not last more than 1-2 hours or less, it may indicate that that the batteries will not take a charge anymore and need to be replaced. This can happen if the power chair has not been charged in a while or has been stored. Having the chair on or off while charging will not affect the charging process, but you ususally want it to be OFF.
Good luck!
