Does it still work? If you have cleaned it and its OK then press on with use. If you are worried its got inside etc then its a job for a dealer/specialist unless you know a good DIYer to partially dismantle it. Be careful not to upset any settings. You can probably get a parts list from Janome online which would help to know what goes where.

I have a new elna 860 expressive today when I switched it on only some of the icons are lit up, the straight stitch and tea shirt icons. On the straight stitch setting only the top 4 icons are lit

Is it "brand new," ie just purchased from an Elna dealer? If so, take it back immediately! It is still covered under warranty.

Possibly some of the computer components are failing. This, most often, requires professional service.

I am doing something wrong in threading my Juki MO 2516. Help!

I don't own a Juki but I know with my
Bernette to always thread in the order shown on the diagram inside the front cover, usually upper looper, lower looper, then the right then left needles. Then raise the pressure foot and draw all four threads under it and out to the left rear of the sewing platform, lower the presser foot, press the foot pedal and hopefully, chain off.

Also check that you are getting the thread into the tension dials correctly, pull downwards and there should be resistance on the thread, if this isn't there at all, then take thread out and try threading around the dial again to seat thread in fully.

Sometimes, walking away, having a cup of tea, then coming back and starting fresh works. Clean and oil it, change needles, rethread from start to finish and hopefully it behaves.

I need a manual for the knitting mate please?

Go get a couple packages of Large skewers. Boil some water in a Medium pan or tea pot. You want steam and lots of it so a tea pot would be ideal if you can stand the noise. A garment steamer might work too. Hold the book page edges down over the steam. Steam, and use your fingers to open a page or two. Place a skewer between each page. Remember you want steam not wet.use the skewers to hold the pages open as it dries... you can even hang the book by the skewers over a large pot.

In the mean time you might be able to find the manual online if you google the brand name of the knitting machine and instruction manual.

I had a zigzag problem with Elna SU Electronic Air, which I fixed with your solution, but some of the unfreeze liquid had gone down the bobbin winder hole and now the outer wheel on the right side wil

is the belt slipping now? You'll probably need to take off the top cover and see if you can clean up the spilt lubricant off the bobbin winder mechanisim and the drive belt on the right of this. The bobbin winder is friction driven, a rubber ring around a plastic barrel and when you click this over to the right the rubber ring drives off the main drive part of the machine.

removing the top panel is a bit tricky because you've got the handle there too, two screws unscrew it, then you need to manouvere the cover upwards and left to get it out of the bobbin feed part then tip it to the back of the machine to give you a view of the inners. You might want to subscribe to the Yahoo group called "Elna Heirlooms" as there's probably a prior thread on this there, lots of Swiss Elna owners who service their own machines, very useful place to visit.

Bobbin thread on excelw18 just pulls out after stitching

You have to keep the presser foot in the UP position in order to thread it properly. If presser foot is in DOWN position when threading, the thread cannot fall correctly into the tension discs.
Needle nice and new? Inserted all the way up as far as it can possibly go in the needle bar groove? Flat side toward back and thread inserted into the eye of the needle front to back? Feed dogs cleaned of broken thread?
If bobbin thread is problem, it's a threading issue. Did you actually put your threaded needle down into the needle hole and make a loop with your bobbin thread? Quite fixable. Relax, have a cup of tea and get away from machine for a good minute, then check all the things I just mentioned. Then you will be sewing happily in no time.

I have a Singer Merrit4530 and it is working well except for the tension. It looks fine on the top,but is terribly loose on the bottom. I do not have the manuel. Can you help me?

Yes, I can help you, first off, go to www.singerco.com and under the customer support tab, click instruction manual, now enter 4530. You can download your manual for free and enlarge diagrams to see everything really clear for threading etc. Now make sure that you save a copy of it to your computer, maybe even print one out. Now you will never be without a manual.
Now, back to the stitching problem, rethread, according to your manual, do this test, with the presser foot up, pull on your top thread, it should feed smoothly, put the presser foot down and the thread should barely move when pulled on. This usually seats the thread in the tension discs for you.
When the stitches are not right on the bottom it is almost always the top threading.
Take a deep breath, read your manual with a nice cup of tea and relax. Happy sewing and good luck

Uneven stitching from bobbin

Hi there!

Well you're right it's a tension problem.

Sounds like there is little or no tension on the top thread.
You probably have thread stuck in your tension discs. If so, set the tension at zero, open the discs with a small screw driver and blow between them. Sometimes you have to dig it out with tweezers.
Then reset clockwise untill you can feel the tension on the thread when you pull through it. It should be about the same as pulling a mug of tee along a table. (not specific I know - but you get the idea - and I love the tea!)

Hope this helps you.
Richie.

Loops!

This issue is generally the No. 1 problem folks have, so be methodical and just keep breathing.

It is your upper tension that is too loose (relative to the bobbin)......

....sounds like you are in a pickle and have adjusted things well out of standard...

....get a nice cup of tea, sit down and read through this link to see if we can get you back to work !
