With most keyboards they cannot be adapted for USB if it is a PS2 type. It is possible to have a keyboard for very low in cost. I would suggest getting a USB keyboard.

With Windows 7, many of the older keyboards will not work. I have some old type high end Windows Keytronick type boards. These go back to before 2002. They will not work with Windows 7.

I cannot get my keyboard or my mouse to work with my dell computer. what can i do?

Please add more information to get specific assistance. Are these wireless devices? If wired, do they use USB or PS/2 connections.

For wireless devices, try replacing the batteries and resynching to the receiver. (You may want to check putting the receiver in different USB ports.)

For wired devices, disconnect and reconnect. For PS/2 devices, you will need to restart the computer to check if the devices work. For USB devices, try connecting to different USB ports.

Next step, try using a different keyboard and mouse (that work on another computer (stick to USB or PS/2 to match the current pair)). Try a wired set if the problem is with a wireless pair. If those work, continue diagnostics on the wireless keyboard and mouse. Check if the mouse and keyboard work on another computer. If they don't work with another computer, replace them.

If another USB keyboard and mouse pair don't work in any port, your USB ports may have failed. Check if even one port works enough to access the Device Manager. (Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Device Manager (Win7); similar directions in other versions of Windows) Check for a problem with the drivers (For USB ports, scroll down to the USB drivers and look for a triangle with a yellow exclamation point or red x). Try to update the driver or roll it back. If that doesn't help and one USB port works, a USB hub may solve the problem.

Otherwise if the USB or PS/2 ports do not work with any devices and the driver fix doesn't work, then I'd suspect a problem with the ports on the motherboard. Replace the motherboard/computer.

I hope this helps.

I use z611, and i want to install in my new computer which is window 7 system. and i found the computer doesnot communication with printer. also i want to the company website, they havenot offer driver...

From the Microsoft compatibility site, you should be able to get this printer to work with the drivers built into the Win7 OS (Lexmark z611). If you get a communication failure, try a new USB cable and try a different port. Check if a known working device works.

If you are using a USB hub or print server, try a direct connection.

I hope this helps.

Mouse can not work

this is usually do to a port going out or the total failure of the mouse.. or if it's a rather old mouse, the ball underneath is too worn to work.

if it's the port, there are 2 kinds, one is a round port (PS/2), you will have to turn off the computer to remove the mouse from this type of port.

if it id the round ps/2 port, you will have to either get a new mouse using usb, or you can try a new ps/2 based mouse.

REMEMBER you cannot plug in or remove a ps/2 mouse while the computer is still on!

The next port, and most common is the usb port. it's a small rectangle.

You most likely have atleast 4 of these on the back of your computer, and most of the newer computers have 2 on the front, sometimes in a hidden panel.

Sometimes if you are a windows user, windows will set a usb port aside for what normally resides there, and a mouse in a port that usally houses a printer usb plug will make windows not see the mouse sometimes.

Removing a usb port mouse is rather easy, you dont need to turn the computer off to do so.

Before considering replacing a usb mouse, try putting it into another usb port. sometimes this will work. also, see if the lights are working underneath when plugged in. (optic mouse, not ball mouse).

if you have determined that your mouse is broken, then the next step is to replace it. bestbuy sells mice for about 25-30 dollars.

if you dont mind waiting 3-7 business days, a reputable online retailer like 3btech.net can sell you a mouse for about 15-20 dollars, and 3btech does not charge for shipping.

I have a new Dell computer, which has no PS2 port.

No, unfortunatly there is none unless you specificaly ask Dell for a usb driver.

It's a common myth that users think USB has built in drivers in it's hardware. The only resolution to this issue is to ask the manufacturer for a new driver for this specific item to run under usb.

Mouse and keyboard have no power

If your mouse and keyboard work properly with another computer or laptop the problem could be :
A) if devices are USB :
- defective USB port : chose another USB port;
- USB port inactivated in BIOS : check and activate;
- motherboard defective : replace motherboard.
B) if devices are PS/2 :
- damaged PS/2 ports : buy a PS/2 to USB adapter for your mouse/keyboard or buy USB mouse and keyboard;
- motherboard defective : replace it.

No power to USB ports, no video output

Make sure you have connected the USB's on right spot on the motherboard.

It's few places where it fits, so just try it out.

KVM GCS1734 with microsoft wireless mouse/keybrd 4000

The MS keyboard & mouse receiver is effectively a USB hub with two devices connected to it. So, plugging it into the keyboard socket on the KVM switch may well work, depending on how that particular switch implements USB. If it just passes things through, it should be OK. On the PC side you should only need to plug in the USB cable from the switch's keyboard port.
