The abridged manual and the full-length manual give the same directions for reaching the Record Announcement in the Answering Sys sub-menu. First, check if the battery on the handset is fully charged and that the handset is registered to the base. Next make sure that you are within range of the base. Next, after pressing menu, make sure that you press the up or down arrow through the entire list of menu options. If you still can't find the Answering Sys menu item, contact the manufacturer. There is a problem with the phone and the internal ROM is corrupted.

The full-length manual for the CS6729-2 is available from the V-tech product page, http://www.vtechphones.com/products/product_detail/2354 . The direct link to the manual is http://cdn-media.vtechphones.com/media/p/document2/products/%7B4402C77B-CB4B-4A32-933E-33F794E2C1CA%7D/CS6729-2_UM_4_905.pdf .

I hope this helps.

How do I change the outgoing message for the answering machine?

Without the exact model number from the bottom label I'm guessing this excerpt from a Vtech manual should be close enough to get you started:

Record your own announcement
You can record an announcement up to 90 seconds, but announcements shorter than two seconds will not be recorded.

1.Press "MENU/SELECT" when the handset is not in use.
    2.Press <Up Arrow> or <Down Arrow> to highlight ">Answering sys", then press "MENU/SELECT".
    3.Press "MENU/SELECT" to select ">Announcement".
    4.Press <Up Arrow> or <Down Arrow> to highlight ">Record annc", then press "MENU/SELECT".
5.The system announces, "Record after the tone. Press 5 when you are done" and the screen shows RECORDING ANNC... 5-Stop.
6.After the tone, speak towards the handset microphone.
7.Press 5 when done. The answering system automatically plays back the newly recorded announcement, then returns to the previous menu. -OR-
7.Press "OFF/CANCEL" to exit without saving the recording.

Want to change answering machine message

Good afternoon Ed.

You can find the complete manual for this system here:
http://cdn-media.vtechphones.com/ecp/documents/product_Product/1681/UserManual/6351/ls6425-3_manual_i3.pdf
If you go to page 43 of the manual (page 47 of the .PDF file), it has instructions for recording your greeting. It has additional icons and such, but the short summary is:
  1. With the handset down, press [Menu/Select]
  2. Arrow up or down to highlight [Answering Sys]. then push [Menu/Select]
  3. Press [Menu/Select] to select [Announcement]
  4. Arrow keys to highlight [Record annc]. then press [Menu/Select]
  5. System will announce 'Record at the tone, press [5] when you are done.
  6. After the tone, speak toward the handset microphone.
  7. When Done, press [5]. System will play your message back to you and returns to previous menu, or press [Off/Cancel] to exit without saving recording.
Hoping that helps, and Happy Holidays.

What does a stand for on the vtech answering machine

It means your system is set to "Announce" mode instead of "Answer." In this mode it announces you're not available to take the call but does not allow the caller to leave a message. If you want the system to take a message, switch to "Answer" mode.

Enter the model of your VTech 5.8GHz system into the search box at http://www.vtechphones.com/support/general/manuals to download a copy of the manual.

Answering system doesn't work.

Your system is set to "Announce" mode, where it plays an announcement but does not record a message. You want "Answer" mode, where the system allows the caller to leave a message.

Since you didn't give the model of your VTech system, I can't tell you how to switch modes. Enter the model into the search box at http://www.vtechphones.com/support/general/manuals to download a copy of the manual.

The answering machine is not recording messages left by callers. there is an A showing on the screen instead of the number of messages that used to appear on the screen

Without knowing the model of your VTech answering system I can't give you a definite answer, but apparently you have your system set on announce instead of record. Enter the model of your phone into the search box at
http://www.vtechphones.com/vtechphones/index.cfm/support/general/manuals/
to download a copy of the manual.

I have a 5.8 vtech cordless phone and answering machine combo. The answering machine has a Ain the screen and doesn't record incoming messages.

Your machine is set to the announce mode, where it plays an outgoing announcement but does not record incoming messages. You want to switch it to the record mode. Since you declined to specify the model of your VTech system I can't tell you exactly how to do that. I can direct you to enter the model number into the search box here to download a copy of the manual.

Won't record message

Your machine is set to "Announce" instead of "Answer" mode. The announce mode merely plays an outgoing message but does not record any incoming messages.

Since you neglected to specify the model of your VTech 5.8GHz cordless system I can only suggest you enter it into the search box here to download the manual to learn how to switch modes.
