Sounds as if you have a short circuit in the headlamp circuit. While this could be anywhere, most likely a pinched wire somewhere you have removed and reinstalled some part. The seat? Replaced headlamp bulb? As to no longer starting, you may have blown a fuse due to the short.

More likely to be your ignition coils. They heat up and expand this can cause an open circuit which will close up again when it has cooled down. Although, a bad charging system may cause this problem. Check the battery voltage with engine switched off ( approx 12 volts) and with the engine running (approx 14 volts) If you are getting 14 volts then your battery is dead, if you aren't, then your charging system has a fault.

I have an '08 Lance GS-R. Because I live in CA, it was shipped with the Front Lights Switch present but disconnected. This causes the headlamps to be on constantly when the key is in the ON position [but...

you can always wire in a seperate switch, relay and fuse for the headlamp -- this will allow you to switch on and off the light when you choose. but I will have to say that a brand new battery and a check to see if your DC generator is putting out the correct voltage to charge the battery might be something to look into before installing the switch idea. --- the battery should be good enough when fully charged to start the bike everytime. ( check the battery ).
