More likely to be a fault with the switch or the electronics than a mechanical fault. See if you can find a repair manual for it.. often you can find these online, they will have electrical diagrams and such.. not the same as the User manual. That may assist your husband.

SOURCE: MC 11000 janome stops reading presser foot "p"

This is a relatively easy adjustment as I just did one last week but I'm not sure I can explain it. Anyway, open up the lamp cover and look at the top of the presser bar. There is a sensor that is easily adjusted. It has a small phillips screw that you need to loosen. Then move the black 'L' shaped piece either up or down a little (I can't remember which way) and re-tighten the screw, you may need to experiment. The 'L' shaped piece is a flag that goes between two sensors when the foot is raised and can be rotated left and right about 10 degrees. I hope that helps.

SOURCE: electronic sewing machine (singer 7442) will not sew buttonhole

Ensure that you have the buttonhole lever all the way down until it doesn't go down anymore. This might sound like a silly fix, but it's actually one of the most common mistakes made by people using this(and other automatic buttonholing) machine.

While sewing my presser foot would lift for no reason. Did that off and on for a few days, and now it won't lower at all!

The Viking Designer 1 has a presser foot sensor system in the head/needle bar area. I believe that you have some thread wrapped around a link in that area. Look closely in the area that the take-up lever is in and if you see a thread end, try to get a hold of it with tweezers and turn the handwheel backwards to see if it unwinds.

Good Luck

I have a designer se the take up lever keeps dropping the thread

Try threading with a figure-of-eight motion - take the thread to the left of the take-up lever hook, across through the hook, then down to the needle. This makes the thread cross itself below the take-up lever hook and may help keep the thread in place. Also be sure that your thread is in the tension disks properly. Always thread with the presser foot raised so the tension disks are open and the thread can seat itself properly. If this does not help, you probably need to see a machine technician.

How do I move the presser foot on a Husqvarna Viking Emerald 116 sewing machine?

Not sure what exactly you need to know. Are you trying to lift the presser foot or change the presser foot to another one? If it is lifting, there will be a lever of some kind behind the machine. On one of my Husqvarna machines it was a big flat "paddle" shaped lever, not sure what shape it is on the Emerald machines. Lift the lever from the bottom upwards and outwards. Most Husqvarna machines have clip on-and-off feet. You just gently pull forwards on the foot (while the presser foot is raised) to remove it, then push the new one on making sure the small bar part of the presser foot goes into the clip on the presser foot ankle.

Viking Designer 1 presser foot will not stay down

The foot should come up slightly above the fabric when in embroidery mode. If not, the fabric could not move.
The foot should come up the same distance that it would if you were to put the foot in the pivot position while sewing. If it is coming up more than that, then you have a problem and will need to see and authorized technician.

Viking Designer 2 service mode

Hold down the start/stop button and the presser foot pivot button at the same time and turn the power on. You may need to try it a few times.
Hope that helps.

Service Menu For Husqvarna Designer SE

Hold down the start button and the presser foot pivot buttons at the same time and turn on the power. The machine will make a funny noise and the test screen will come up. You then need to find the sub-menu, I think it says tensions on it but I'm not sure.

This doesn't sound like something that you can do yourself. Find your nearest authorized repair center and have it checked out.
